Reviews: Paracas and Huacachina Sunset Picnic Tour

Do yourself a favor and sign up for this day trip out of Lima! This was one of the first things we did upon landing in Peru and my boyfriend and I, a couple in our early 40's, agreed that if our trip had ended right then and there we would have been happy. As it was we continued on for over two weeks with an Amazon River cruise, a hike to Rainbow Mountain and a 5 day trek to Machu Picchu, and at the end we still both decided that this excursion was the coolest part of our entire vacation. Yes, it is an early pickup, but the bus was comfortable, and the way they break up the trip down to Huacachina really made the early wake up easier to bear. The Paracas speedboat tour was a lot of fun. The only downside to this stop is that the coffee was horrible at the cafe where they stop for breakfast. As far as the tour its-self we saw all of the animals we expected, sea lions, penguins, and blue-footed boobies among other sea birds, and the rock formations were beautiful. The next stop at the winery was nice and the included lunch was delicious. Then on to the oasis! Huacachina was a beautiful gem in a desert the vastness of which I had no idea existed in South America. The dune buggy ride was exciting, like the wildest roller coaster I've ever been on, and with 3 roughly 10-15 minute rides throughout the experience it was well worth every dollar spent on the trip. The sand boarding, even though we were only laying on our bellies, was exhilarating, and we got to do 2 runs before jumping back in the buggy to chase the sunset - talk about incredible! The ride back was long, but we were exhausted and selpt for most of it, and they dropped us off when they said they would. A final note is for our guide, Aaron. He really did a stellar job of taking care of the entire crew which wasn't terribly large, but included children, a couple elderly guests and a mix of singles and small groups or couples. Also we spoke different languages and he easily switched from English to Spanish narration throughout, which I give him all the credit in the world for. This isn't the cheapest tour you will find to this incredible destination, but I will say they really made this long day the absolute best it could be!

Breathtaking doesn't put it into words. Beautiful scenery you won't see anywhere else in the world. I want to take the pictures I have and turn them into puzzles!

I highly recommend it! It was great to get out of Lima and experience a variety of things :) The bus seats were comfortable, and they gave us plenty of time to rest, and we even got to ride a boat and a four-wheeler, which was fun!

It was a great trip, really cool, but definitely a longer drive. Very fair price for what you experienced. We wished that the sandboarding was longer. You only got to go down once, so that was disappointing.
Reviews: Wine, Pisco and Dune Buggy Experience

We chose this experience because it seemed the most complete, and it was! Plus, it was perfectly organized by Samael. We were looked after every step of the way by Pablo (our driver), who acted as a mediator with the various local suppliers. The Tacama experience is a classic winery visit with tasting: the staff (in English) are knowledgeable and engaging. At Arrabal, the visit is different, shorter, but still worth it for the guys who work there and who fully engage you in the experience with special toasts after each glass! The food is also great. Finally, the oasis: I can only say it was magical to slide across the dunes on a sandboard accompanied by a buggy (worse than a roller coaster because, yes, they go up and down the dunes, crazy!)
