Reviews: Bariloche: 7 Lakes & San Martin de Los Andes Road Trip

The guide was very passionate about the subject and shared a lot of information about the region and everything we saw. He's clearly found his calling. I also have to commend the driver; I've rarely felt so safe in an Argentinian vehicle. It was a wonderful excursion, although unfortunately with a larger group than usual, which didn't dampen the spirits at all. Everything went perfectly and satisfactorily.

Great tour. Our guide Jenny was great, explained everything in English and Spanish to our very international tour. Highly recommend.

Our guide Damian and driver George were excellent. Damian had perfect English and was good to explain everything. The trip was well organised and we were given plenty of time at each stop. The views were spectacular! The bus was comfortable.

The tour was a 10-person English-speaking group booked on Ctrip. The actual group consisted of 9 people: 2 American women, a Korean-American couple, a woman from Shanghai, and our family of four. The woman from Shanghai originally booked a 22-person group but was reassigned to our 10-person group after the group couldn't be formed. Overall, the trip was good, but it didn't quite meet my expectations. Our guide, Doc, was enthusiastic and sincere, but his spoken English needs improvement. The vehicle was a Ford D-Car, and the equipment matched the advertising. Dissatisfaction included extra charges and excessive product recommendations, although not mandatory. The local tour operator, SST, demanded an extra 250,000 VND in holiday cash tips per person, which was unreasonable and exceeded the terms of our Ctrip booking. There were a total of 8 promotional activities throughout the trip, including local art factories, local honey, singer tips, boatman tips, and some food recommendations. The main attractions are the Vietnam War tunnel warfare battlefield tour and the final kilometer-long tropical rainforest boat ride, which is quite fun. There was a paid shooting game in the middle; we bought two sets of 20 bullets. My son and I planned to each shoot a set, but minors are prohibited, so my dad finished the whole thing. The bullet cost a total of 1.35 million VND, which is close to 70,000 VND per bullet – definitely expensive. Other soft-sell tactics were barely acceptable, but I hope they can be reduced; there were a total of 9 such attempts. Hard tips were unacceptable as it was difficult to negotiate on-site, and I was forced to accept them. Overall, I'm 80-85% satisfied. I hope the guides and boatmen won't keep asking for tips in the future, and I also hope that all sales pitches will be eliminated, especially since it's advertised as a "pure tour."
