I think the best eSIMs are daily packages like those from Trip.com. eSIM apps tend to cost about 3-4 times as much, but this is overwhelmingly cheaper. It's a pain to buy a SIM card locally, so I think this is probably cheaper. When you buy it from Trip.com, you don't even need to print the QR code you receive; you can just click the install button on the eSIM reservation confirmation screen.
