We visited several cities during our trip to Australia and the Wi-Fi usage was great. Hotels also had free Wi-Fi, so the data allowance was more than enough and the signal was excellent. I ordered two eSIM cards. One for me and one for my wife. For some reason, the connection didn't work in China, which was disappointing at first. Then it turned out I needed to enable roaming in the SIM card settings (iPhone 17). And I got a connection in the Philippines. The reception is pretty good, you can even make video calls.
