Hands down the best activity I did in all of Japan! I had high expectations, but this went far beyond them. After about a 40-minute bus ride from the center of Kyoto, you arrive at a traditional house where you’re given a ninja uniform and a headband with their logo—and the fun begins. You can choose from three types of shuriken, or a kunai for a small extra fee of ¥3,000. Even though you’re given the basic shape, the process is incredibly hands-on: heating the metal, hammering it into form, sharpening, sanding, and polishing. I felt completely focused and zen the whole time. The guides were incredible—full of energy, super kind, and even helped us film. At the end, they engraved our tools with kanji symbols we got to choose ourselves. Is it a perfect ninja weapon? Probably not. Do I love it? Absolutely. We also got to meet their adorable Shiba named 姫 (Hime), which means “princess” in Japanese—she was the cherry on top of an alrea
