For the area around Tokyo, this kind of day trip is perfect. You don't even need to change hotels in Tokyo, the lake views are absolutely stunning, and the tour guide is incredibly helpful.★

very convenient pass and worth it if you are in nikko for days. consider getting the 4 days pass only if you have a super chill trip, as things open and close from 10am to 5pm. not much food options at night but good enough.★

This trip was absolutely amazing.
Toshogu Shrine is a World Heritage Site. Unlike typical Japanese aesthetics, it is resplendent and extremely luxurious, conveying behavioral principles through sculptures. The most famous is the use of monkeys to represent Confucius's teachings: "Do not look at what is improper, do not listen to what is improper, do not speak what is improper."
Kegon Waterfall is crystal clear, its spray like shattered jade. Lake Chuzenji is serene and breathtaking, reminiscent of Switzerland. The Irohazaka Slope is thrilling and unforgettable.
