This is legitimate service and worth the price. Both attractions were stunning and our guide, Star, was very knowledgeable and accommodating. We took an early high speed train from Beijingbei to Datongnan and were picked up at the station. For people in Beijing doing a Datong day trip without hotel stay, it would be difficult to hit the 2 premier attractions in the same day without any arranged transport. Maybe you can Didi to Hanging Temple after Grottoes but that's really pushing it and probably won't work some of the time due to the long queue at the Temple. Booking individual tickets + shuttles is also a hassle for foreigners so it's nice to have that taken care of too. Keep in mind that this is indeed a full day as it's not very practical itinerary. Unless you start at 9 or earlier, you may not really have time to stop for meals. Eat a good breakfast and bring snacks. There will be opportunities to get quick food at the attractions but beyond that, time can't really be spared.
