This World Heritage site, renowned for its beauty, is definitely worth a visit.
Carved into the mountainside, the caves are interconnected, with Buddha statues of all sizes displaying diverse expressions and possessing a powerful presence. The Wuhua Cave retains some color, while the Tan Yao Five Caves are grand in scale.
The facilities within the scenic area are good, making the walk relatively easy. A word of advice: do not use flash photography inside the caves, and it's best to have a guided tour; otherwise, you'll only see the surface of many exquisite details. While reasonably commercialized, it's a must-see in Datong.
