Kirishima Kinkowan National Park is located at the border of Kagoshima Prefecture and Miyazaki Prefecture in the southern part of Kyushu, Japan. The park consists of the Kirishima area in the north and the Kinko Bay area in the south, with each region offering its own unique characteristics. The northern Kirishima area features over 20 volcanoes of various sizes, and volcanic activity has formed landscapes such as crater lakes, plateaus, and hot springs. Mt. Karakuni in the park has an elevation of approx. 1,700 m, and from the summit, you can enjoy views of Kinko Bay and Sakurajima. Ebino Plateau is located at an elevation of approx. 1,200 m and is a popular starting point for hiking. Crater lakes such as Onamino Pond and Oike are scattered throughout the mountains, and the lakeside trails are perfect for birdwatching and strolling. Mt. Takachiho is considered a sacred site in Japanese mythology, and the historic Kirishima Shrine is located at its foot. The Kinko Bay area is centered around the active volcano Sakurajima. Sakurajima stands in the bay, occasionally emitting smoke and shaping the unique landscape of this land. Attractions along the coast of Kinko Bay include Ibusuki Onsen, Shigetomi Beach, and Cape Sata. Here, you can experience sand baths, coastal hiking, or take a boat trip to see dolphins. This park showcases a natural landscape where volcanoes, the ocean, and forests intertwine, offering visitors a diverse range of outdoor experiences.Kirishima · 22.2 km from downtown
