Tongariro Alpine Crossing is renowned as New Zealand's premier day hike, as it offers travelers more than just a challenging journey; it also features breathtaking volcanic landscapes. The trail begins in the Mangatepopo Valley near Wakapapa, then climbs along a stream and winds around the edge of ancient lava flows. Along the way, there is a steep ascent from the valley to the Mangatepopo Saddle, and although the trail is challenging, it is well worth the effort, as on clear days, you can see a panoramic view of Mount Taranaki (Mount Taranaki).Tongariro · 5.7 km from Otukou

Mount Tongariro, also known as Mount Tongariro, is an active volcano on the North Island of New Zealand. It is located 20 kilometers southwest of Lake Taupo at an altitude of 1978 meters. The most recent eruption occurred in 1977. Mount Tongariro, together with the nearby Ngauruhoe and Ruapehu volcanoes, formed Tongariro National Park in 1894 and was named a World Heritage Site in 1990, making it a famous hiking spot. In the movie "Lord of the Rings", the mansion of the Dark Lord Sauron, Mordor and Mount Doom, are based on Mount Tongariro and the nearby Mount Nauruhoe. Today there is a tour operator that runs a tour that takes visitors on a kayak adventure along the Whanganui River from Mount Tongariro to the Tasman Sea.Tongariro · 8.5 km from Otukou

Tongariro National Park is located at the southern end of the Rotorua and Taupo geothermal areas in the central North Island of New Zealand. Spectacular volcanoes and indigenous Maori culture are its features. In 1990 and 1993, UNESCO included Tongariro National Park as a cultural and natural heritage in the World Heritage List. The park is a very famous volcanic park in New Zealand. There are 15 volcanic craters that have been active or are active in modern times, arranged in a line and extending to the northeast. These include three well-known active volcanoes, namely Donggriro, Naiuruh and Ruapehu. Mount Ruapehu is the apex of the North Island, with an altitude of 2,796 meters. The top is covered with snow all year round. It is a famous ski resort and a "young" active volcano that is only 750,000 years old. The most spectacular of the three volcanoes is the Neuruh Volcano, which is conical in shape and has a steep slope. The top is a crater with a diameter of 400 meters, which is a very typical conical volcano. It has been active since the 1830s. The Donggriro Volcano is about 1980 meters above sea level and has a wide peak, including a series of craters such as the north mouth, the south mouth, the middle mouth, the west mouth, and the red mouth.Waiouru Military Area · 16.2 km from Otukou

Waitomo Glowworm Caves

Waitomo Glowworm Cave is a limestone cave in the western mountainous area of the North Island of New Zealand, and it is also a scenic spot in New Zealand. Waitomo in Maori means "surrounded by green water". On the wall of the cave, dotted green light dots are layered upon layer upon layer. These green lights flicker on the black water, and the light and shadow are doubled. This is a wonderful world belonging to the green elves. 1. Three caves with different characteristics make up the Glowworm Cave The Glowworm Cave is mainly composed of three caves with different characteristics, Waitomo Glowworm Cave, Ruakuri Cave and Alanui Cave. The Glowworm Cave is a stalactite cave with a history of more than 10,000 years. There was a small ice-covered lake on the mountain of this cave. After the ice and snow melted, it flowed into the cracks in the rock formation below, and gradually eroded into the current cave. Cathedral Cave inside the Waitomo Glowworm Caves, this huge cave is known for its echoes of space. Ruakuri Cave is a legendary underground cave where the sound of water from an underground waterfall can be heard. The entrance of Alanui Cave is the visitor center, and the vaulted greenhouse with membrane structure is very imposing. 2. Thousands of glowworms enter the cave for a tour. You need to take a boat to enter the depths of the cave. After getting on the boat, the guide will pull the guide rope above to push the boat forward. The strange spot of light in the cave is the light emitted by thousands of fireflies. You will find patches of green and white light on the rocks. Looking closely, there are jagged translucent filaments hanging from the ceiling of the cave under the light and shadow. The silk has clear water droplets like a curtain of crystal beads. These beautiful filaments with slime are the firefly's fishing tool to attract and prey on light-following insects. This firefly has only been found in New Zealand and Australia. 3. Black Labyrinth Tour, Abyss Tour and Odyssey Tour In addition to the "black water rafting" in the Glowworm Cave, if you are brave enough and your endurance is good enough, you can also experience the Black Labyrinth Tour organized by the legendary black water rafting company , Journey to the Abyss and Journey to the Odyssey. These three journeys will take 3-5 hours respectively, and will involve rock climbing in caves, abseiling, and rafting on tires. Of course, if you participate in these tours, you can not only enjoy free hot showers, but also delicious hot soup and local New Zealand pancakes for you to enjoy. Plus, get a free visit to the Waitomo Caves Museum.New Zealand · Waitomo Caves

The Tongariro Loop is one of the most famous hiking routes. It is nearly 20km long and passes through many hills. When you reach the highest point, you can see several sulfur lakes with blue-green light. It takes about 7 hours.

Hot springs and geothermal energy are just the gentle side of geological power, and the mountain in front of us is an active volcano. But the beautiful ski resort and the filming location of the Lord of the Rings movie seem to make people forget its terrifying side.

Hobbiton was an amazing experience with beautiful scenery, charming surroundings and incredible attention to detail. The entire place was well maintained, and walking through the village felt like stepping into a magical world. The lush green hills, iconic hobbit holes and picturesque landscapes made the visit truly memorable. What I appreciated most was how accommodating and considerate the staff were towards my friend with OKU (disability) needs. Their willingness to assist and ensure my friend could enjoy the experience made a real difference. It was wonderful to see a popular tourist attraction making an effort to be inclusive and welcoming to visitors with different needs. The surroundings were absolutely stunning, and there were plenty of opportunities to take beautiful photos and appreciate the unique atmosphere of the village. Every corner had something interesting to discover, and the scenery made the entire visit enjoyable .

Lake Taupo is so big that it looks like a sea. It is a must-see attraction when traveling to the South Island of New Zealand! If you live in the city, you can walk to the lake. There are many sailboats and yachts, and you can play golf directly in the lake. New Zealanders are really good at playing. It is also very comfortable to lie in the green space by the lake and bask in the sun. All hotels are fully booked during the peak travel season, so you must book in advance. There is also a Huka Falls nearby to check in.

This activity is a little thrilling, quite good, and very safe; I checked the safety belt several times. Originally, besides bungee jumping, there was also a skywalk, but due to unclear information in the travel advertisement, we only did the bungee jumping. There weren't many people doing it now. Afterwards, you get a free tour of the Sky Tower.

The guide was so fun and knowledgeable, and everything went smoothly. It was all so beautiful and immersive — I felt completely drawn into the experience. The only downside was that there were no photos, but honestly, that was also one of the best parts! I was able to be fully present and really enjoy it.
