Yangcun Yanyiwei is located at the foot of Liyuzhai, the center of Yangcun Town, Longnan City, Jiangxi Province, 60 kilometers north of the county seat. It was built in the seventh year of Shunzhi in the Qing Dynasty by Lai Fuzhi, a wealthy family in Yangcun. The name of the wei was taken from the two characters "Yanyi" in the Shanhaijing, "Tuxian Rongchang, Yanyi Yimou", which means foresight and prosperity of descendants.
Yangcun Yanyiwei is the tallest and thickest existing Hakka weiwu, an ancient Qing Dynasty building with both defense and residential functions. It was listed as the fifth batch of national key protection units in 2001.
