Tha Phae Gate

4.7/5
2.5k reviews
Tha Phae Gate is located on the east side of the Chiang Mai Ancient City in Chiang Mai Province, Thailand, and is one of the iconic city landmarks of Chiang Mai, as well as an important entrance to the ancient city. It is built of red brick and features wide archways. Together with the surrounding remnants of the ancient city wall and the moat, it forms a Lanna-style urban view. The brick walls have a rustic color, and the architectural outline is simple. They complement the surrounding roads, squares, and trees, making it a popular spot for tourists to take photos. The gate seen today is not the original ancient structure preserved in its entirety, but a reconstruction.Chiang Mai · 18.9 km from San Kamphaeng

It features various stalls, shops, and indoor markets along the street, offering goods such as clothing, shoes, hats, bags, accessories, wood carvings, handicrafts, and tourist souvenirs, making it perfect for visitors to stroll around and browse for unique items. It brings together goods from northern Thailand and other regions, creating a lively atmosphere with a strong tourist-oriented commercial vibe. The Mae Ping River is the source of Thailand's mother river, the Chao Phraya River. The river originates from the mountainous area in the northern part of Chiang Mai, then passes through the city from the urban area of Chiang Mai, flows through the northern plateau of Thailand, and flows from Bangkok to the sea. There are many specialty coffee shops or dim sum shops along the Mae Ping River. You can find a comfortable shop by the river to sit down and enjoy delicious food while enjoying the beautiful scenery by the river, blowing the refreshing river wind, very comfortable.Chiang Mai · 19.7 km from San Kamphaeng

Nimmanahaeminda Road

4.7/5
1.1k reviews
Located northwest of Chiang Mai's Old City, between the Old City and Chiang Mai University, lies Nimmanahaeminda Road, a renowned fashion hub and a favorite spot for Chiang Mai's young people. Tips for Exploring Nimmanahaeminda Road While the main road of Nimmanahaeminda Road is busy with traffic, the main area offers more than just shopping. Several quiet side streets perpendicular to Nimmanahaeminda Road also boast numerous interesting shops and attractions. These side streets, known as Soi in Thailand, are mainly concentrated on the odd-numbered side streets on the east side of Nimmanahaeminda Road, so don't miss them! However, remember to visit around 4 or 5 pm, as many shops are closed earlier. The pace of life here is slower, and people generally enjoy a more relaxed lifestyle. Unique and Diverse Architecture The area features a diverse range of architectural styles, from European to traditional Southeast Asian. Occasionally, you'll also spot the four-faced Buddha statues, a symbol of Thai faith. However, the most eye-catching features are the numerous colorful sculptures, each inspired by the theme of its respective shop. For example, if a restaurant is named after a cat, a giant cat sculpture will appear in front of it. Along the way, you'll also find deer, dinosaurs, and other sculptures, which many tourists take photos with. Walking along Nimmanahaeminda Road, you'll see a variety of charming shops, cafes, bars, and trendy boutiques, mostly owned by designers, artists, and celebrities. The designs are sophisticated, making even just strolling around a pleasant experience. Popular Food Spots If you get tired of shopping, you can relax at unique restaurants and cafes like the butterfly pea flower-themed restaurant, iBerry, Mango Tango dessert shop, and Ristr8to Latte Art Café, and sample some local delicacies. At the butterfly pea flower-themed restaurant, everything from rice and noodles to drinks is blue. It is said that the food here is dyed with Anchan, a blue flower from Thailand. The blue drinks sold on the streets of Thailand are also dyed with this flower, and it is said that adding honey will turn them purple.Chiang Mai · 21.9 km from San Kamphaeng

"U Mong" means "tunnel" in Thai, which is how Wat Umong Suan Putthatham (Wat U Mong) got its name. The temple is located at the foot ofDoi Suthepon the outskirts of Chiang Mai. It is less crowded and filled with a sense of Zen. Temple history The temple was first built during the 14th-century reign of King Mengrai, restored in 1371, and abandoned in the 15th century. Since 1948, it has been re-established as a center for Buddhist education and meditation. Tranquil temple grounds At the center of the temple stands a Sukhothai-style pagoda on a base. Ancient walls surround the pagoda, adorned with lifelike Buddha statues of various sizes. Surrounded by lush woods and a lake, the temple is quiet, rustic, and serene, making it perfect for meditation. Additionally, the temple is exceptionally beautiful at sunset. Know before you go There is a smaller replica of the temple in the old city of Chiang Mai. When taking a ride to the original temple, you must specify that you want to go to "Wat U Mong TheraJan" so that the songthaew or tuk-tuk driver understands where you want to go.Chiang Mai · 23 km from San Kamphaeng

Colorful Waterfall is located in Mae Deng District, Chiang Mai, and is a part of Mae Deng National Forest Park. The water source of the colorful waterfall is Rainbow Spring (or colorful spring), and the spring water contains a high amount of calcium carbonate. When the spring water falls, calcium is deposited on the rock, and calcium carbonate makes the rock surface less slippery, making it easy to walk towards the waterfall. Even if someone poured cement down the rock, it would harden underwater instead of setting on the rock. BuaTong Waterfall is a very worthwhile sight to visit. But don't come just for the waterfall, but also to see the beautiful forest.Mae Taeng · 36.9 km from San Kamphaeng

Every Saturday afternoon, Wualai Road at the south gate of Chiang Mai Old City is closed to traffic for the Saturday Market. All along the road are fruit and snack vendors, filling the lanes and plaza to the brim with their booths. The merchandise for sale is very artistic, primarily consisting of local Chiang Mai handicrafts such as ethnic clothing, self-made jewelry, hand-painted lacquerware, embroidered handbags, wooden products and much more. The area is also full of street performers.Chiang Mai · 19.3 km from San Kamphaeng

Mae Kampong Village is a beautiful, quaint, century-old village located southeast of Chiang Mai city, about 1 hour away by car, and is well worth a visit. It is known for its tea and coffee production, sees very few tourists, and is home to many shops selling handmade goods. Bamboo products and tea pillows are local specialties that most village elders know how to craft. Tea pillows are simple to make, and you can even DIY one yourself. Small and delicate, they are perfect for absorbing odors and replacing them with a faint tea scent. This village is like a secluded paradise—quiet and simple. Stay in a homestay, listen to the sound of the forest, and experience a long-lost sense of peace.Mae On · 23.3 km from San Kamphaeng

Located in the northeast of the ancient city, Chiang Mai Temple was built by King Manglai in 1297, the early days of Chiang Mai's establishment, making it one of the oldest temples in the city. It once served as the king's residence. Not only is the environment elegant and serene, but the beautiful, exquisite building also preserves the remains of ancient dynasties. The main building consists of two classic Lan Na-style palaces, each more magnificent than the last. In the minor hall next to the main hall, there are two statues of Buddha encased in glass shrines, each embedded with priceless precious stones. Leaving the hall and coming to the back of the main hall, visitors are met by a square stupa decorated with elephant carvings, another spectacular feature of Wat Chiang Man.Chiang Mai · 19.5 km from San Kamphaeng

After breakfast, I took a taxi to Thapae Gate to take pictures. I took a few pictures by myself first, and then I saw someone who would take pictures for 100 baht and chase away pigeons for me. It was a great place to take pictures. After taking pictures, there are some drink shops nearby. If it is very hot at noon, you can also find a massage place to rest, walk around and take pictures. Be careful to protect yourself from the sun! The sun is still very strong.

"Bua Tong Waterfall" in Bua Tong Waterfall National Park (Seven-Colored Fountain) A white, shiny limestone waterfall, a long path, almost 200 meters, with 3 levels in total, suitable for climbing and playing in the water (not slippery, easy to walk, there are ropes to hold on to all the way). It is not far from Chiang Mai city, only 52 km (about 1 hour). The route is easy and convenient. The asphalt road reaches the park. In the night market in Chiang Mai, you can find cheap handicrafts, bags, clothing, perfumes, shoes, belts, lanterns, silverware, wood carvings, etc. Everything is available! The snacks here are more authentic Chiang Mai style. You can see a side closer to local life in Chiang Mai, There are sketch artists, street performers, music performers, there are even temple fairs that are as lively as the Chinese New Year! It’s so cool to spend money at the Saturday night market. Everything is so cheap, everything is so cute and I want to buy it! Everyone who comes to the Saturday night market comes home with a lot of loot! After visiting the Saturday night market, there was a small bar nearby. Listen to live singing and have a drink in a small bar, how wonderful life is! oh! Forgot to mention... Although the Saturday night market is a little smaller than the Sunday night market, But you also need to have the physical strength to run a half marathon to finish the tour!

Wat Chiang Man is the oldest temple in Chiang Mai. It was built in the early 15th century and was once the palace of King Menrayi. At first glance, it feels like a pastoral villa, with staggered pagodas and intricate carvings. In the backyard, there is a square pagoda surrounded by 15 elephants. There are some local middle-aged and elderly believers helping to take care of the house and clean it. The flowers and plants planted around it are also particularly beautiful under the shade of various retro buildings. Bring a 35 or 50 fixed focus to freeze the beautiful moments
