Sipadan Island

Sipadan Island is a small island off the coast of Semporna, Sabah, Malaysia. It is a rare oceanic island in Malaysia, covering an area of approx. 40,000 square meters. It was formed by coral reefs growing over a long period on the top of a dormant submarine volcano until they emerged above the sea surface. The entire island resembles a stone pillar rising straight out of the sea from the seabed approx. 600 m deep, with nearly vertical reef walls surrounding it. The shallows near the jetty are just a few steps from the beach, and at the edge of the reef shelf, the seabed drops off steeply into the ocean hundreds of meters deep. This "cliff at your feet" topography is the foundation of its status as a legendary dive site. After filming a documentary here, oceanographer Jacques Cousteau described it as "an untouched piece of art."Tawau · 40.6 km from Semporna

Warship Island is one of the islands in the Dunsakaran Marine Park. It looks like a warship, hence the name Warship Island. The island is about a 45-minute boat ride away from Semporna Town. It is a small uninhabited island. The scenery is very beautiful. The tall coconut trees are inserted into the sky. There are a large number of corals of various shapes and colors growing on the bottom of the sea, which are so beautiful that people are intoxicated. In order to protect the local environment, the government does not allow people to live on the island, tourists need to return on the same day, and everyone on the island must register their names.Semporna · 19.4 km from downtown

Mandabuan Island, located in the northeast of Semporna, is the highlight of human civilization. The inhabitants of the island are the Bajau people, and the traditional way of life makes the people here in perfect harmony with the natural environment. The exquisite milk-blue sea water is addictive, and the white and slender sandy beach makes people feel calm. Mandabuan Island and six other smaller islands around it belong to the Semporna Archipelago Park.Semporna · 26.5 km from downtown

Lankayan Island is located in the Sandakan Sulu Sea. The island is very small and surrounded by emerald water. The island is lush with tropical vegetation, the beach is delicate and white, and it has a colorful underwater world with a panoramic view of the tropical scenery. A quiet environment away from the hustle and bustle, it is a good choice for leisure vacation. It is both a resort, a diving site and a sea turtle conservation center. Lankayan Island is located in the living area of sea turtles. During the breeding season of sea turtles from June to September every year, you have the opportunity to see the whole process of sea turtle nesting and hatching of small sea turtles. Lankayan Island is also described as a marine world wonderland. The sea is clear and blue, you can see a lot of giant marine life, and there are many diving spots. It is suitable for going to the island all year round, but diving is very good from April to November every year. In season, huge and harmless whale sharks can be seen.Malaysia · Sandakan

Low's Peak, located in the Kinabalu National Park, is the highest peak of the sacred mountain with an altitude of 4093 meters, and it is also the highest peak in Southeast Asia. It takes 1 to 2 days to climb from the foot of the mountain to the top of the mountain, and then back to the foot of the mountain. Generally, it is necessary to book accommodation on the mountain one or two months in advance. It is also a beautiful place to watch the sunrise. Standing on the top of the mountain, waiting for a round of red sun to spray out from the clouds, the mountains and the sea have a panoramic view, which is very magnificent.Malaysia · Ranau
Kinabatangan River

The Kinabatangan River is the longest river in Sabah. The source of the river is located in the Central Borneo Mountains, and it flows about 560 kilometers eastwards into the Sulu Sea. The lower plains of the Kinabatangan River are very barren and not suitable for farming. But it is a hub for wildlife. The famous creature here is the proboscis monkey, whose male monkeys all have drooping noses, large abdomens and thick white tails. Other attractive animals include orangutans, macaques, elephants, clouded leopards, hornbills, crocodiles, cub cats and otters. Kingfishers, egrets and other species of birds can also be seen here. Ironically, deforestation and oil palm plantation have created the Kinabatangan River's interesting fauna. Plantations and camps are further destroying the original rainforest, the jungle is dwindling, and animals have to find habitat on the flood plains by the river. There are dozens of tin boats on the river, and visitors can get up close to hornbills and even deer-eyed orangutans. Even if you've already seen this furry creature in the Sepilok Ape Man Reserve, it's exciting to see orangutans in the wild.Malaysia · Kinabatangan

The park houses a number of small museums dedicated to the memory of thousands of Australian and British soldiers killed during Japanese rule. The shovels, generators and boilers used at the time are rusted but still in place, and a nearby staircase leads to a small memorial pavilion.Malaysia · Sandakan

Sipadan island is world famous and an amazing spot for scuba diving (sharks, turtles, huge colorful corals, etc) and also excellent for snorkeling. It is a really a must to order a guaranteed Sipadan permit in advance long before you get there are the number of permit per day is limited especially during peak seasons.Mabul island is the nearest and the best place to stay at as there are no resorts on Sipadan itself.

While enjoying the sun and the beach, we visited a small fishing village. Most of the people there were stateless and very poor and backward. We were very happy to hand out a few candies. The only primary school in the village had only three or four teachers from grade one to grade six.

Mount Kinabalu is very beautiful! It is the highest peak in Malaysia, with an altitude of 4095.2 meters. The whole journey is very shaky, but there is no dangerous terrain. It is only 8.5k from Timpohin to the top of the mountain, but the altitude rises to 2228.8 meters. There are rich ecological plants and magnificent mountain views along the way. It is really recommended!

The Kinabatangan River, viewed from the plane, is long and yellow, winding and lushly wooded on both sides of the river. During the boat trip on the river, I felt the quietness and ecological diversity. It is definitely worth a visit.

I almost left the Sandakan Memorial Park off my travel plans, but I'm glad I didn't. The Sandakan Memorial Park is a lovely, cool oasis with great views. The park was built to commemorate the residents of Australia, Britain, New Zealand and Sandakan Island who endured three years of brutal Japanese occupation during World War II. It's very informative and the stories are very touching, and you can see many real historical events and stories left by the 6 prisoners of war who survived the concentration camp. The Sandakan Memorial Park is well worth a visit.
