Duku Highwayis the common name for the Dushanzi to Kuqa section of National Highway 217. It starts in the north at Dushanzi and ends in the south at Kuqa, the site of the ancient Qiuci kingdom. It spans approx. 561 km and runs through the Tianshan Mountains, cutting the travel distance between northern and southern Xinjiang, which originally required a detour of over 1,000 km, by nearly half. Half of the highway is at an altitude of over 2,000 m, and it crosses four mountain passes covered in snow year-round. One-fifth of the route lies in the alpine permafrost zone, and one-third consists of cliffs and precipices. It took ten years to build this road before it was fully opened to traffic. More than 100 soldiers who built the road rest forever in the Tianshan Mountains, and the Martyrs' Cemetery in Qiao'erma was built to commemorate them. It can be said that every kilometer was hard-won.China · Kuytun

Liuxing Street is an ancient block in Yining City, Yili Prefecture, Xinjiang, China. It was built in the mid-1930s (1934-1936) and was planned and designed by German engineer Wassli according to the six major policies (anti-imperialism, pro-Soviet, ethnic equality, peace, construction, and integrity) promoted by the Xinjiang Provincial Government at that time. The block is circular in plan, with six main roads radiating outward from the center, dividing the block into six fan-shaped areas, with public buildings such as schools and shops in the center and residential areas on the periphery, forming a unique residential model. Local people affectionately call it "Little Bagua City".China · Yining City

Guozigou Bridge

Guozigou Bridgeis a twin-tower cable-stayed bridge on the Lianyungang-Horgos Expressway that crosses the Guozigou Valley. Located in Huocheng County, Ili, it guards the vital passage into and out of the Ili River Valley and opened to traffic in 2011. The bridge is approx. 700m long, and the deck is approx. 200m above the valley floor. Two high towers rise from the valley slopes, with cable stays fanning out to span the deep valley. After the bridge spans the valley, vehicles no longer need to detour along the valley floor, and this stretch of road has become an impressive sight for many traveling to and from Ili. This bridge is particularly striking: because of the continuous mountains on both sides, the bridge is built in an S shape following the valley's terrain. Viewed from nearby slopes, the bridge winds through spruce forests and wildflowers, framed by the valley and distant mountains. In late spring and early summer, the valley is lush and wildflowers are in full bloom. When the light hits at an angle in the early morning or evening, the bridge's silhouette is particularly distinct, making it a favorite spot for photography enthusiasts. To see the full view, you usually need to go around to the south gate side of Sayram Lake and head to the Guozigou Jinding Observation Deck area along the old national highway. There are multiple observation platforms and connected wooden boardwalks there, where you can walk to capture the S-shaped bridge, the valley, and the spruce trees in your lens. Most tourists arrange to stop here while visiting Sayram Lake on the same route, making for a more relaxed itinerary.China · Huocheng

Hundred-Mile Gallery

Hundred-Mile Gallery is located in Nilka County, Ili, Xinjiang. It is a scenic stretch extending over a hundred miles along the Kashgar River valley, starting from the Qiao'erma junction on the Duku Highway in the east and extending westward along the provincial mountain road. This grassland was formerly known as Tangbula Grassland, which means "seal" in the Kazakh language. Hundreds of tributary valleys extend from both sides of the river valley into the mountains, with scenery in every valley: Schrenk's spruce forests, snow-capped mountains, meadows, and blue river channels create a picturesque scene, which is how the name "Gallery" came to be. The most comfortable way to explore the entire route is by self-drive, allowing you to stop at your leisure. The Xiaohuashan Viewing Platform is a great place to take in the panoramic view, with the Kashgar River below carving an S-shaped curve across the grassland, and the entire valley is bathed in a warm golden hue at sunrise and sunset. Fairy Lake is hidden high in a tributary valley, with water in the unique turquoise blue of glacial meltwater. It requires a hike or horseback ride along a gentle horse trail to reach. In the calm of the early morning, the lake surface reflects the perfect image of the snow-capped mountains. The primeval forest in Bulonggou hides mountain hot springs. Bee Town is a great place to stop and rest, where you can also taste local wildflower honey. In summer, wildflowers cover the meadows, and around September, the birch trees turn yellow. These are the two most vibrant times. After winter arrives, heavy snow seals the mountains, and the grassland enters a long period of silence. Most tourists enter from Yining by self-drive or car charter. At night, you can stay in a Kazakh yurt deep in the grassland, drink a bowl of milk tea, and eat a meal of hand-grabbed meat. The light pollution is low at night, and the Milky Way is visible to the naked eye.China · Nilka County

Tangbla Grassland is located in Nileke County. It is the collective name of the grassland landscape in the upper reaches of the Kashi River, named after the Tangbla Grand Canyon. Because there is a huge rock on the ridge on the east side of the valley, just like a jade seal, it is named Tangbra (meaning seal in Kazakh language). From Nileke County to the source of the Ka River, the lush mountain grasslands and valley grasslands on both sides of the Kashi River are what people usually refer to as the Tangbula grassland. This is a natural landscape area that integrates forests, grasslands, rapids, and mountains and rocks. The well-known film "Tianshan Honghua" was shot here. The grassland scenery in the scenic area is very beautiful, with the peculiar Arslang Stone Forest, the magnificent grassland sunset, and the ice peaks and snow ridges reflected in the quiet and deep alpine lakes. The warm and refreshing hot springs, the blue sky, and the green pastures here give people a beautiful enjoyment every moment.China · Nilka County

Yili River Scenic Areais located on the south side of Yining City and is an open waterfront scenic area that stretches along both banks of the Ili River. The Ili River flows from east to west and is the mother river that the people of Ili have relied on for generations. With the protection and restoration of the river's ecology as its foundation, the scenic area relies on the wetlands, forest belts, and riverside trails on both banks to connect the natural riverbank, urban leisure, and local folk culture. It is not only a place for tourists to view the river and the sunset but also a daily destination for locals to walk, jog, and cycle. The signature scene here is the "Ili River Bridge sunset": The Ili River Bridge spans the river and is one of the landmarks in this area. In the evening, as the sun sets, the bridge's silhouette, the river water, and the sky blend into one, making it a favorite spot for photography enthusiasts. From time to time, you can also encounter local newlyweds who come specifically to the bridge to take wedding photos or hold weddings, adding a touch of human warmth to the riverbank. The scenic trail along the north bank is lined with trees and offers a wide view, making it suitable for hiking or cycling. There are viewing platforms along the way where you can stop at any time to enjoy the river view. After nightfall, the bridge lights up, and the light strips reflecting on the water surface create a different kind of charm. The scenic area was built in 2014, successfully established as a National 4A-level Tourist Attraction in 2015, and launched the creation of an autonomous region-level tourist resort in 2020. It is a crucial core project in the overall planning and construction of Yining's urban tourism. In the past two years, to provide a better experience for tourists and citizens and to enrich the scenic area's business offerings, the scenic area has developed projects such as Yishui Qinshen, Yishui Youyang, the water tea house, the shouting fountain and windmill corridor, Hello Bike, the scenic area tourist reception center, high-altitude wire walking, the North Bank Elf Home family-friendly park, the outdoor volcanic camping site, the cute pet park, and the Ili River lighting project, showcasing the unique charm of this place. The beautiful banks of the Ili River feature towering snow-capped peaks and lush trees. Near the section of the river in Yining, there is the famous Ili River Bridge, which is a great spot for photographing the sunset. The "Ili River Bridge sunset" has become a popular subject for photography enthusiasts.China · Yining City

Guozigou Valley

Guozigou Valley is a canyon passage between the branches of the Tianshan Mountains. Its northern end is adjacent to Sayram Lake, and its southern opening descends directly into the Ili River Valley. It has been a natural gateway to and from Ili since ancient times and is also a vital passage on the New Northern Silk Road. It is known as the "Iron Pass" and, due to its outstanding scenery, is called the "Number One Scenic Spot in Ili." The valley stretches for approx. 30 km, with steep peaks on both sides, spruce and birch trees covering the mountains and plains, and streams flowing at the bottom of the valley. In late spring and early summer, wild fruit blossoms and mountain flowers bloom one after another, and in the fall, the entire valley is painted with colorful foliage. Guozigou Valley's name comes from the wild fruit trees covering the mountains; patches of wild apples and apricots still grow on the riverbanks and hillsides today. In the early Yuan Dynasty, Yelü Chucai passed through this area while traveling west with the army. In his "Record of a Journey to the West" (Xiyou Lu), he wrote, "After passing the Round Lake, the southern descent is full of apple trees, with dense shade that blocks the sun." The "Round Lake" he referred to is Sayram Lake, and "linqin" refers to wild apples. Even earlier, Genghis Khan's western expedition army opened the road here. His second son, Chagatai, led men to chisel stone to clear the path and build 48 wooden bridges, making the steep mountain valley passable for carriages and horses. Later, Qiu Chuji passed by and left the poem, "Forty-eight bridges, ten thousand fathoms deep."China · Huocheng

As one of the oldest and only remaining Russian-style buildings in Tacheng, the Red House has a history of nearly a hundred years. At present, it is the office land of Tacheng Newspaper Office, and it is an autonomous region-level cultural relics protection unit. The Red House was built in the second year of Xuantong in the Qing Dynasty, that is, in 1910, by the Tatar businessman Remazan Kanyshev, who was originally from Russia. It covers an area of 885 square meters and is divided into upper and lower floors. There are 16 large and small houses in total. The ceiling floor, iron roof, door frame and window lattice are all built with exquisite patterns. The walls facing the street are all light red, so people call it "Red House". After the red building was completed and put into use, Remazan Kanyshev operated a large number of local specialties and import and export trade here, becoming the center of Tacheng import and export trade at that time, and many businesses from Dihua (Urumqi) also came here to open their doors. agency. In 1933, Sheng Shicai arrested Remazan Kanyshev on trumped-up charges, and the red building was confiscated and turned into a hospital; later the red building was returned to the original owner. Soon after the son of Remazan Kannyshev took over the Red House, he donated it and still used it as a hospital. Later, the red building was successively converted into the office building of the regional administrative agency, the guest house, and the office building of the agricultural department of the administrative agency. In 1985, the Red Building was designated as the office space of the Tacheng Newspaper. In recent years, many domestic film and television directors have made a special trip to Tacheng and put it on the screen, allowing hundreds of millions of viewers to see its style, and many foreign tourists who come to Tacheng will also come here to visit.Tacheng City · 61.1 km from Yumin

Strolling along Yining's Liuxing Street, sunlight bathes the streets in an exotic atmosphere. Century-old alleys wind like poems, their blue walls and stained glass windows telling the story of time. Uyghur artisans strike bronze instruments, their clinking echoing through time. The aroma of baked buns fills the street corners, and the rhythm of hand drums awakens the dormant bricks and tiles. Every tile here is engraved with a story, and behind every carved wooden door lies a warm smile. The hexagonal streets and alleys, like blooming flowers, quietly embrace diverse cultures.

Yili Old Town Cultural Tourism Area (Kazanqi Subdistrict) Kazanqi, now officially known as the Yili Old Town Cultural Tourism Area (a 5A-level scenic area, formerly known as the Kazanqi Folk Tourism Area), is located in the old city of Yining. Kazanqi means "pot-maker" in Uyghur. Two to three hundred years ago, this area was a gathering place for various craftsmen, including pot casting, blacksmithing, and leatherworking, hence the name. It is a living residential area, not a man-made replica of an ancient scenic spot. Tens of thousands of locals still live here, a multi-ethnic community that has coexisted for generations, earning it the nickname "museum of folk dwellings." Features: 1. Yili Blue Dwellings: The varying shades of blue in the courtyards and colorful carved wooden doors of the houses along the streets and alleys create what is known as the "Blue Town." This blue is a color blended by the locals themselves, complementing the flowing water, flowers, and grapevines in front of the houses. It blends Uyghur, Russian, and Chinese architectural styles, with over 300 old buildings dating from the Qing Dynasty to the Republic of China period perfectly preserved. 2. Hadik Carriage: A traditional six-stick horse-drawn carriage with a melodious bell, a signature experience in the old town. Ride through the blue alleyways, where the driver will explain the history of the streets and lanes – a truly iconic experience (at your own expense). 3. Folk Customs and Food: • Visit a family in one of the marked homes, enjoy milk tea and fruits under a grape trellis, and experience Uyghur family life. • Must-try street food: handmade traditional ice cream, baked buns, lung noodles, and kvass. • Highlights: Tudahongbai Courtyard, Shaanxi Grand Mosque, old shops, and intangible cultural heritage handicrafts (leather goods, wood carvings, carpets). Practical Travel Information: The street area is free and open all day; carriage rides, family visits, and museums are charged separately, no reservations required. Search "Yili Old Town Cultural Tourism Area North Gate" on your navigation app; entering from the North Gate is the most convenient. Best time to visit: 9:00 AM – 12:00 PM, when the light is soft, there are fewer crowds, and it's the best time to take photos against the blue walls. Arrive at Kazanchi, the old town of Yining, Yili. Kazanchi means "pot-maker." This nearly 300-year-old town still has tens of thousands of residents, making it a truly living blue-themed town. The courtyard walls, in varying shades of Yili blue, are paired with colorful carved wooden doors, and a babbling brook flows in front of each door. You can ride in a Hadi horse-drawn carriage, accompanied by the crisp sound of bells, through the alleys. Hidden in the alleys are century-old handmade ice cream shops, freshly baked buns, and you can even step into a local family's courtyard and enjoy milk tea under a grape trellis. It blends Uyghur, Russian, and Chinese architectural styles, a fusion of multi-ethnic cultures. This isn't a man-made tourist hotspot; the alleys are filled with the authentic, everyday life of the old town of Yili.

Autumn also offers a unique experience for visitors to Meixian's Baili Gallery. While the thousand-acre lotus pond mentioned in the reference primarily showcases its summertime lotus spectacle, there are other things worth experiencing around the area in autumn: Enjoying the Autumn Scenery In autumn, the trees surrounding the Meixian Baili Gallery transform into a vibrant array of colors, with maple leaves turning red and ginkgo trees turning yellow. These colors complement the surrounding landscape, creating a beautiful natural canvas. Strolling or cycling along the gallery will allow you to experience the rich autumn atmosphere. Tasting Autumn Fruits Autumn is harvest season, and Meixian may have abundant fruits, such as kiwis, ripening. Participate in picking, savor the fresh, delicious fruits, and experience the joy of harvest. Nearby Leisure Activities Along the route to the Meixian Baili Gallery, you may find farmhouses and unique shops nearby. After exploring the area, you can sample local delicacies at the farmhouses and enjoy a leisurely and relaxing autumn experience. In addition, although the lotus flowers in the thousand-acre lotus pond have passed their flowering period in autumn, the surrounding ecological landscape is still worth seeing. The wooden trails, the Wei River embankment and other scenery also have a unique charm in autumn. You can stroll along the trails, feel the autumn breeze on your face, and enjoy the scenery of the Wei River.

Entering Guozigou, you feel like you are in a fairy tale wonderland, and you can't help but imagine. Leaving Sayram Lake, you climb up to the top of the pine tree, where you can see thousands of wounds and ravines, and the pine waves are breathtaking. The road twists and turns down, sometimes steep cliffs, sometimes like facing the abyss. The clouds and mountains send waves of pine waves, and the wild fruits bring wisps of fragrance. The gurgling springs come and go, and a wooden house and felt tent are hidden in the green leaves and floating on the green grass. It is a combination of danger and beauty, and reality and fantasy are intertwined.

Tacheng Red House Museum was a must-go place when I was in primary school. Hahahaha, I didn't take any photos or pictures at that time. More than 50 years have passed, and now there are too many changes. I now have a camera or a mobile phone to take pictures of the good times. Below is my angle of shooting the changes of the Red House. How about it? If you have time, you are welcome to check in at the Tacheng Red House Museum in my hometown. [Scenery] Unique
