Zambezi River
Zambezi River, also known as the Liambai River, means "great river" in the local dialect and is the fourth longest river in Africa. It originates in the northwestern plateau of Zambia, passing through plateaus, canyons, reservoirs, and river valley grasslands, with numerous waterfalls, rapids, and canyons along its main course. The river plunges into the Batoka Gorge at the border between Zambia and Zimbabwe, forming the famous Victoria Falls. The canyon section below the falls features turbulent rapids and is a popular destination for whitewater rafting. The section near the falls has open, calm waters, where taking a sunset cruise is a classic activity, often offering sightings of hippos, crocodiles, and flocks of water birds. The middle reaches around Kariba feature vast waters suitable for boat cruises and fishing. The river's famously fierce tigerfish are highly sought after by anglers. The lower reaches flow through the Lower Zambezi National Park in Zambia, where elephant herds are frequently seen along the riverbanks, and buffalo, lions, and leopards also inhabit both sides of the river valley.Zambia · Luangwa
Lake Kariba
Lake Kariba was formed in the late 1950s by the Kariba Dam. The lake stretches over 200 km, with a width of up to approx. 40 km. Its surface area and water storage capacity rank among the highest for artificial lakes worldwide. Standing on the shore and looking out, the vast expanse of water makes it easy to forget that this is a reservoir. It has now become an important ecological and tourist destination. The lake area is famous for its magnificent natural scenery and abundant wildlife, making it an ideal place for birdwatching, fishing, and water sports. The lake is dotted with many islands inhabited by wildlife, and taking a boat tour along the shore is a unique experience here.
