Things to do in Zhongba

This is a well-known scenic spot located in Shigatse, Qinghai-Tibet Plateau. It is adjacent to National Highway 219 and is easily accessible. The scenic area features a distinctive high-altitude desert, surrounded by majestic snow-capped mountains and magnificent natural scenery. It is open to tourists free of charge.

Zhabuye Chaka, also known as Zhabuyecuo, is located in Renduo Township, Zhongba County, Tibet. It is 4,429 meters above sea level and is one of the three largest lithium salt lakes in the world. Zhabuye Chaka is known as the "Sky Mirror of Tibet". The lake is as pure as a mirror, and the white clouds in the sky are pure and flawless, which makes people marvel at the wonders of nature.

We stayed in Payang Town for one night. We could go to see the Zhongba Sand Dunes and wetlands nearby. It borders Ali, with the Himalayas to the south and the Gangdise Mountains to the north. It stretches for more than 20 kilometers and is connected to the Maquan River Wetland. It was very sunny in the afternoon, but walking on the sand dunes and flying the drone was great.

Renduo Township (actually not very populated) belongs to Zhongba County, Shigatse Prefecture, Tibet Autonomous Region. It is 4,900 meters above sea level, covers an area of ​​about 4,700 square kilometers, and has a population of about 1,500. Renduo Township is mainly engaged in animal husbandry, raising yaks, sheep, goats, etc. Due to the high altitude and poor transportation conditions, it is less affected by the outside world, and the Tibetans still retain their original ecological life.

The source of the Yarlung Zangbo River is the Maquan River. It flows out of the snow-capped mountains and is surrounded by a chain of crescent-shaped wetland meadows that connect to the surrounding desert. This is called an oasis in the desert and is very rare.
