Yala National Park, located in southeastern Sri Lanka, is the country's most visited and second-largest national park. Renowned for its rich biodiversity, Yala is home to elephants, leopards, sloth bears, and a variety of bird species. The park's diverse landscapes include dry forests, grasslands, and wetlands, creating ideal habitats for wildlife. Yala is especially famous for having one of the world’s highest densities of leopards.

Pinnawala Elephant Orphanage offers a unique chance to see rescued elephants up close. Watching them bath in the river was a highlight. Arrive early to avoid crowds and get the best views from nearby cafés. Such a memorable experience!

We visited Minneriya hoping to see the famous elephant gatherings, but there were surprisingly few. The park’s terrain is mostly forested, with limited open plains for wildlife viewing. In contrast, Yala National Park offered a much richer experience with more wildlife sightings, including elephants.

Because the animal is located on the outskirts of the city, it takes about 20 minutes to get there by taxi. In the hot summer, in addition to smelling the body odor of animals, many beasts such as brown bears and lions are hiding in the shadows and sleeping, and you cannot see them moving around lively. If time permits, I will definitely not visit under the bright sun next time.

Vihamahadevi Park is an oasis in this warm and busy city, where you can sit and read, take a walk or ride a bike. It is calm and cool in the morning, but some areas of the park can get crowded in the evening. There are many people in the park, all taking a break. There is a big golden Buddha at the entrance, which attracts many people and tourists. Generally worth a visit, a place to check in, and leave a tourist photo.
