Weihai food recommendations | 5 restaurants you'll remember after one visit
I had no experience on my first trip to Weihai, so I relied on locals to show me around. Every place I visited left a lasting impression. I've compiled this list for friends who haven't been yet—follow these recommendations and you won't go wrong.
🌊 Feiyumoshu (Liugong Island Xingfu Branch)
Located next to Xingfu Gate, it's perfect for a meal after touring Liugong Island. The grilled fish is selected, prepared, and grilled to order. The skin is grilled to a slight crisp while the meat remains tender, and the garlic flavor is infused without overpowering the natural freshness of the fish. If you don't like spicy food, the garlic or soy sauce flavors are great options. They help with shelling the seafood, and the mackerel dumplings, while small, are packed with filling. It gets crowded during meal times, so booking in advance will save you some trouble.
🌊 Yijuyuan
A Jiaodong-style restaurant with over 20 years of history. The quality of the dishes is very consistent, and you can't go wrong with almost anything on the menu. The sea worm rice and braised pork are their signature dishes. You can also try popular items like the roasted pumpkin and Yijuyuan fish head. Basically, you can order anything and it will be good—it's perfect for a family dinner.
The staff will help with the grilling, and they control the heat perfectly so it's neither overcooked nor undercooked. You can just sit back and wait to eat.
🌊 Cen Laolao Wonton Shop
A long-standing shop open for over 20 years. The wontons have thin skins and generous fillings, and they are handmade fresh every day. You can taste the freshness of small clams in the bone broth, and pairing it with a tea egg is the standard local breakfast. It costs about 12–13 yuan per person—it's warm, comforting, and a great value. Note that this shop only stays open until 2:00 PM, so go early if you want to eat here.
🌊 Laoma Gedatang
The dough drops are handmade from high-gluten flour, making them distinct and chewy. The broth is simmered with large shrimp and clams, giving it a fresh and refreshing taste. It's suitable for dining with elders or children as it's light and nutritious. It gets crowded during meal times, so I recommend arriving before 11:30 AM, or you'll have to wait in line.
