🗺️ Two Days in Changde | Family Tour Guide to Taohuayuan and the Poetic Yuan River
Changde is like an open book of landscape poetry, featuring the Peach Blossom Spring from Tao Yuanming’s writings and the fishing boats singing at dusk on the Yuan River. The two-day itinerary is leisurely paced—elders can enjoy the serene historic sites, children can play and explore, and the whole family can immerse themselves in this "paradise on earth"~
🌸 Day 1: Dreaming in Taohuayuan · Traveling Through a Millennium of Poetry
Morning: Step into the Real Scene of "The Peach Blossom Spring"
📍 Taohuayuan Scenic Area (5A, ticket 128 RMB, free for 60+)
- Highlights: A recreated "Peach Blossom Spring" based on the classic "The Peach Blossom Spring" story. Take a boat upstream from "Qin Creek" (30 RMB/person), see peach blossoms lining both banks (best in March-April, with artificial peach trees in other seasons), and listen to boatmen singing fishing songs, as if stepping into the scene of "suddenly encountering a peach blossom forest."
- Elders can rest at "Huo Ran Terrace," enjoying the pastoral scenery of "flat land and neat houses"; children can play "catching fish and shrimp" in the shallow, safe "Qin Valley," wear Hanfu for photos (rentable in the park, 50 RMB/hour), looking like little scholars from ancient poems.
- 📸 Photo spot: Peach Blossom Pool in front of "Yuanming Temple" (great for ancient costume reflections; elders can stand by the shore for good shots)
- 💡 Tip: The scenic area is large; it’s recommended to take the sightseeing bus (20 RMB/person), hop on and off freely, so elders walk less; bring some snacks as the farmhouse snacks in Qin Valley are a bit spicy, good for kids to nibble on.
Noon: Enjoy a "Farmhouse Feast" in Taohuayuan
Recommended: Qin Valley Farmhouse Restaurant:
- Must-try: Taohuayuan Chicken (free-range native chicken stewed with mushrooms, fresh soup and tender meat, loved by elders and kids alike), Lei Tea Mixed Rice (local specialty, tea fragrance mixed with rice aroma, refreshing and filling), about 40 RMB per person for a satisfying meal.
Afternoon: Blessings at Taochuan Palace · Oxygen at Huayan Creek
📍 Taochuan Palace (inside the scenic area)
- A thousand-year-old Taoist temple with red walls and yellow tiles hidden in bamboo groves. Elders can offer incense and pray in front of the hall, listen to the Taoist priest’s stories about "Tao follows nature"; children watch the Taoist practicing Tai Chi, imitate a few moves, making everyone laugh nonstop.
📍 Huayan Creek National Forest Park (30 minutes by car from Taohuayuan, ticket 40 RMB)
- Known as the "West Lake of Hunan," with lakes and mountains hiding tens of thousands of bamboo groves. Elders can take a boat (40 RMB/person) to see "Egret Island" where egrets fly together; children chase butterflies on the "Yinpan Mountain" trail, collect bamboo shells to make little boats, and throw them into the lake to see whose floats farthest.
🏨 Accommodation: Taohuayuan Homestay (200-300 RMB/night)
Choose farmhouse homestays like "Tao Family Courtyard," with peach trees in the yard. At night, sit on bamboo chairs listening to insect sounds, and the host serves homemade peach blossom cakes (sweet and glutinous but not greasy). Elders say, "This is the real taste of life."
🌊 Day 2: Scenic Tour of Yuan River · Exploring the Ancient City’s Flavors
Morning: Take a Painted Boat on Liuyue Lake · Climb Sun Mountain
📍 Liuyue Lake Tourist Resort (free entry, painted boat 50 RMB/person)
- The largest urban freshwater lake in Hunan. Take a painted boat to see "Willow Waves and Orioles," the lake sparkling in the sun. Elders can sunbathe at the bow, watching fishermen casting nets in the distance; children lean over the boat counting little fish, saying "There must be peach blossom fish in the lake."
📍 Sun Mountain Forest Park (15 minutes from Liuyue Lake, ticket 25 RMB)
- From the mountaintop "Taihe Temple," you can overlook the entire city of Changde. Elders climb slowly along gentle trails, resting at pavilions; children feed little deer in the "Deer Park" (10 RMB/feed), chasing them with laughter echoing through the mountains.
Noon: Taste "Changde Flavors" on He Street
- Must-eat: Liu Deaf’s Noodle Shop: Jinshi Beef Noodles (broth simmered for 8 hours, beef stewed tender enough for elders to chew), Sauce Duck (mildly spicy version suitable for kids, finger-licking fragrant);
- Street snacks: "Sugar Oil Baba" (3 RMB each) and "Artemisia Baba" (4 RMB each), warm and soft, kids hold and eat while walking.
Afternoon: Stroll the Alleys of Changde Ancient City · Watch the Night View of Chuanzi River
📍 Changde Ancient City (free)
- Rebuilt Ming and Qing dynasty ancient city, with wooden shops along bluestone roads. Elders watch shadow puppetry at "Shuixing Tower" (20 RMB/person); children squat by the "Rice Cake Pounding" stall, watching the master swing the wooden mallet pounding glutinous rice, eager to try.
📍 Chuanzi River Boat Tour (afternoon session 60 RMB/person)
- Take a boat to see stilted buildings on both banks, listen to the guide tell stories of the "Battle of Changde." Elders point at the old city wall saying, "These bricks are full of history"; children watch girls on the shore dancing the waving hand dance, nodding their heads to the rhythm.
🛍️ Must-Buy Souvenirs
- Vacuum-packed Changde Sauce Duck (50 RMB each, mildly spicy version for friends);
- Taohuayuan Lei Tea Powder (30 RMB/bag, brew with water, refreshing and aids digestion);
- Liuyue Lake Silverfish (40 RMB/jin, boneless, perfect for cooking porridge for kids, very fresh).
✨ Guide Suitable for All Ages

The peach blossoms in Changde will bear fruit, and the boats on the Yuan River will sing~ If you come, would you want to take your parents to seek poetry in Taohuayuan, or accompany your children to chase little fish at Liuyue Lake?
Because the hotel I stayed in during this trip to Hangzhou is very close to here, I basically have to pass by Liulangwenying Park to go to other attractions around West Lake. Willow trees are planted along the lakeshore, and the willow branches fluttering in the wind on the lake surface are refreshing. At the entrance of Liulangwenying Park, there is a small cafe. Drink a cup of coffee, eat a piece of cake, look at the beautiful scenery outside the window, and enjoy the romance of West Lake.

This is a real shot on March 25. Spring is in the air, with green willows, bright cherry blossoms, and a sunny day. It feels so beautiful.
Hangzhou is my favorite city. I always think it is the most beautiful city in China. I can't remember how many times I went to West Lake. Its charm is suitable for all seasons. In March, the most beautiful thing is the tender green willows by the West Lake. They sway in the breeze of early spring, graceful and charming, and make people's hearts ripple like West Lake. Go to the West Lake to enjoy the Willow Waves and Singing Orioles, one of the ten scenic spots. It is drizzling, the grass is green, and the reflections are like paintings. The huge flowers of white magnolia shade the quaint teahouse. The willow waves are like a few wisps of green smoke in the sky, setting off the most beautiful spring in the south of the Yangtze River.
