Wuxi Meiyuan Park: A Fragrant Snow Sea Feast in the Ancestral Garden of the Rong Family
Summary: This is not an ordinary plum blossom viewing park, but the "Rong Family Plum Garden" built by Mr. Rong Desheng, a pioneer of national industrial and commercial enterprise, to "share spring with the world." It is a famous plum blossom viewing spot and cultural garden in Jiangnan. The essence lies in "seeking fragrance" and "feeling nostalgia." Follow the first cold fragrance of early spring and the slender wrinkles of Taihu stones, between the Heart-cleansing Spring, Nianqu Tower, and thousands of old plum trees, savor the patriotic spirit of industrial service and the beauty of nature amidst scattered shadows and drifting fragrance.

The park requires an entrance ticket, with possible price increases during the Plum Blossom Festival. Opening hours are approximately 6:00 AM to 5:30 PM.
The best visiting time is definitely the early spring peak plum blossom period (usually from mid to late February to early March, highly affected by temperature, so check the bloom forecast before visiting). 🔺Notes:
✔️ The plum blossom period is short and highly weather-dependent, making it a "weather-dependent" attraction. During peak bloom, crowds and traffic are heavy; public transportation is strongly recommended, and be mentally prepared.
✔️ Protect the precious ancient plum stumps; do not break branches, shake trees, or step into fenced lawns. Enjoy flowers civilly and avoid disturbing others when taking photos.
✔️ The park is built on a hillside with some slopes; wear comfortable shoes. The park’s signage system is clear, allowing you to find your favorite plum blossom variety areas by map.
It's been a long time since I've been to Plum Garden, and this time I brought my parents along for a very enjoyable visit. Although it was crowded during the Spring Festival holiday, the ticket discounts made it worthwhile. The only downside was the parking fee, which was a bit expensive!
The Plum Garden at night is much more fun than the Plum Garden during the day. The performances are also good, and they are much better than expected. If there are activities and discounts on the tickets, it will be even more perfect. This one costs about 35 per person for 2 hours, which is a bit expensive.
Because I participated in the night event, I didn't see some of the original contents of the Plum Garden. I felt that the content of the night event was a bit thin. The lantern festival might be more interesting for children.
Wuxi Meiyuan Chrysanthemum Exhibition is jointly sponsored by the Chinese Society of Landscape Architecture and Wuxi Cultural Tourism Development Group Co., Ltd., with the theme of "Chrysanthemums in the Jiangnan Region Shining in China". It fully displays the urban customs and horticultural characteristics of various places in the landscape garden space of more than 120,000 square meters, creating a colorful and unique visual feast for Chinese and foreign tourists and the majority of Wuxi citizens. The colorful chrysanthemums make visitors linger and forget to leave, and the trip is worthwhile!
The autumn scenery of Wuxi Meiyuan is mainly characterized by ginkgo and maple leaves. The ginkgo leaves present a spectacular golden yellow in the sun, which is particularly beautiful near Xianghai and Nianqu Tower in the historic area. The maple leaves change from dark green to bright orange and crimson, and the maple leaves on the lakeshore burn like flames, forming a charming picture. In addition, the autumn leaf landscape of the North Garden of Meiyuan is also very charming. The color palette composed of tree species such as bald cypress, Chinese tallow tree, beech, and sycamore makes people feel as if they are in a gorgeous picture.
Although I have been to Wuxi many times, this is my first time to the Plum Garden. At 11 o'clock, the park was already full. The elderly tour groups and children were climbing up and down the plum trees without anyone stopping them. The mood of enjoying the garden was still a bit off. So to be honest, it is still suitable to walk around at home or in nearby parks on weekends. In terms of transportation, taking the subway is more convenient than taking the bus or driving. The ticket comes from the Wuxi Garden Card bought in 24 years, which allows free admission to the garden. Regarding plum blossoms, the view of the plum blossoms overlooking the mountains is better. The location of Figure 1 is at Zongjing Villa. The tea trees carved in the stone of the Plum Garden are also very beautiful. It's a pity that there are too many people, which ruins the mood of viewing.
Wuxi Plum Garden is located at No. 13, Bianjiawan, Liangxi West Road, Wuxi City, Jiangsu Province. It is a national AAAA-level tourist attraction. It was built by brothers Rong Zongjing and Rong Desheng in 1912 and donated to the country in 1955. There are many plum trees in the garden, with rich varieties, such as Jade Butterfly Plum and Green Calyx Plum. The garden is planted with plums on the mountain and decorated with plums. There are scenic spots such as Xixin Spring, Nianqu Tower, and Tianxin Terrace. Every year when the plum blossoms are in full bloom, it attracts a large number of tourists to come and enjoy the plum blossoms. It is a famous plum blossom viewing spot in Jiangnan.
In traditional Chinese culture, plum blossoms inspire people to make up their minds with their noble, strong and modest character. Plum blossoms are the first of the top ten famous flowers in China. Together with orchids, bamboos and chrysanthemums, they are listed as the four gentlemen, and together with pine and bamboo, they are called the "three friends of winter". Plum blossoms symbolize the spirit of perseverance and indomitable spirit, and are praised and loved by people. There are more than 400 varieties of plum blossoms in Wuxi Plum Garden, including single-petal variety groups, cinnabar variety groups, palace powder variety groups and some special varieties. There are also Tao Hanhong, Longxia Xiaomei, Gujinji, Liuban, Xuhe, Xuemei, etc. In addition, the main populations include Yahe Hanhong, Nanjing Gongfen, Yinhong, Danfen Dansha, Pink Cinnabar, Tieguhong, Nanjing Fuhuangxiang, Yudie Longyou, Erluca, etc.
