熹游纪I just returned from Iceland's Jökulsárlón Glacier Lagoon in January 2025, and it was breathtakingly beautiful! I quickly compiled this travel guide, and I highly recommend liking and saving it!
📍Location: Jökulsárlón Glacier Lagoon is located in the southeast corner of Iceland, right next to Ring Road (Route 1). It's very easy to find, as you can easily see it by car.
🚗Transportation:
• By Car: From Reykjavik, drive east along Route 1. The entire journey takes about 4 hours. If driving in winter, remember to prepare snow chains in advance. Icelandic weather is unpredictable, so be sure to check the weather and road conditions on websites like 【vedur.is】 and 【road.is】 before you set off. Safety first!
• With a Tour: There are many local tour groups, suitable for those who don't want to worry about the hassle and can enjoy guided tours.
💰Cost: The glacier lagoon itself is free, but if you want to experience a boat tour, the price ranges from $50 to $110 USD, depending on the type of boat chosen.
⏰Best Time to Visit:
• Season: November - March of the following year. During winter, there is more blue ice, and you might even see the aurora borealis alongside the blue ice.
• Specific Time: Early morning or late afternoon, when the light is soft and perfect for photos.
🎡Activities:
• Lakeside Stroll: Enjoy the uniquely shaped ice floes along the lake shore; each one is like a work of art by nature, and every shot is a masterpiece.
• Amphibious Boat Tour: Around $50 USD. Comfortable ride, frequent departures, 30-minute journey, allows for close-up observation of the ice floes.
• Speedboat Tour: Around $110 USD. Small boats are agile and fast, allowing for quick access to the glacier and a chance to spot seals. However, it can be quite bumpy, so those prone to seasickness should be cautious.
• Diamond Beach Photo Spot: Located opposite the glacial lagoon, the black sand beach is scattered with ice blocks washed ashore by the waves, sparkling like diamonds.
🍜Food Recommendations: Nearby towns offer lobster bisque, Icelandic hot dogs, and bread soup – definitely worth trying! Icelandic yogurt is also a must-try; it has a rich and creamy flavor.
❗Important Notes:
1. Iceland is extremely cold in January. A thick down jacket, snow boots, warm gloves, scarf, hat, and other warm clothing are essential.
2. The ice and lake shore are slippery; walk carefully and never climb or approach unstable ice floes.
3. The waves are large at Diamond Beach; be mindful of the waves when taking photos. Safety first!

I have never seen a dark night since I came to Iceland. It was always bright. I pulled the curtains to sleep, and it was still daytime outside the window when I woke up in the middle of the night. We set off at nine in the morning and went to the south of Vatnajökull Glacier, which is the largest and most famous Jökulsárlón Glacier Lagoon in Iceland. Hollywood movies "Tomb Raider", "Batman" and "007 series of movies" were all filmed here. There was no excitement in the UK for a few days, and the scenery was too mediocre. When I arrived in Iceland, I started to get a little excited about the Blue Lagoon. The black sand beach was also OK yesterday, but it was not until today that I was the most excited. Not far from the glacial lagoon is another black sand beach, which is called Diamond Beach. An unrepeatable natural wonder, a shocking visual enjoyment! This black sand beach on the Atlantic coast is not like the black sand beach yesterday. It is a veritable diamond beach, because the whole beach is full of diamonds... We have had enough fun on Diamond Beach, and we can't take away any diamonds on the ground. Let's go to the glacial lagoon to continue playing. Dear, take a look, is the Diamond Beach on the Atlantic coast beautiful or the glacial lagoon not far from this beach beautiful? The diamonds on Diamond Beach all flowed out of the glacial lake and floated into the Atlantic Ocean.
The lake is truly breathtaking! 🤩 The glacier and the ocean merge in a dreamlike way here. 💫 This gift from nature is truly stunning! 🌈 Standing at the edge of the glacial lake, beneath your feet are the remains of a glacier millions of years old, and before you is the vast, azure ocean. 🌊 This natural transition zone is absolutely stunning! Every shot looks like a blockbuster. 📸 Come and experience this earthly romance~ It's recommended to wear a windbreaker (the wind is strong near the lake). The best time to shoot is between 3 and 5 pm. Going for a cooler color palette will enhance your photos. 🎨 #GlacierLake #IcelandTravel #NaturalWonder #GlacierLake #TravelPhotography
💎✨【Explore Iceland | Diamond Beach and Glacier Lagoon, a dreamlike painting of nature】✨💎 "Iceland, this isolated country, always brings endless surprises and shocks. Diamond Beach and Glacier Lagoon are the dream places that cannot be missed in Iceland!" 💎【Diamond Beach: A Dance of Ice and Fire】 📍 Location: Located next to the Jökulsárlón Glacier Lagoon on the south coast of Iceland, it is a beautiful black sand beach covered with broken ice, which is part of the Breiðamerkursandur Glacier Plain. 🌟 Features: - Dreamy beauty: When you step onto this beach, it's like entering a dreamlike world. The dark and mysterious volcanic gravel and the crystal clear ice set off each other, forming a sharp contrast. Under the sunlight, the ice sparkles with dazzling light, like diamonds falling on the earth, which makes people marvel! - Unique formation process: The formation of Diamond Beach is closely related to Iceland's unique geological activities and climatic conditions. The retreat of Vatnajökull, Europe's largest glacier, caused ice blocks to break off from the glacier and fall into the glacial lake. These ice blocks floated in the lake, were carried to the mouth of the lake by the lake water, and eventually entered the Atlantic Ocean. Under the scouring of the waves, some ice blocks were washed back to the beach, and after continuous polishing and carving, they formed the "diamonds" of various shapes and sizes that we see today. - Seal Habitat: This is not only a paradise for photography enthusiasts, but also a habitat for wild seals. Many seals live in this area and often appear on the giant floating ice on the shore or in the glacial lake, adding vitality and vitality to this beautiful scenery. 💧【Glacier Lagoon: Tears of the Glacier】 📍 Location: Located next to Iceland's Ring Road 1, between the Skaftafell Nature Reserve and the town of Hofn, it is a natural lagoon where the Vatnajökull glacier enters the sea. 🌟 Features: - Magnificent landscape: Giant icebergs float in the glacial lake all year round. These icebergs present a unique "Icelandic blue" due to their dense structure and light scattering. Some of them are also mixed with volcanic ash textures, forming natural ice sculptures. The lake and the icebergs complement each other, forming a magnificent and mysterious picture, making people feel as if they are in an ice and snow kingdom. - Rich activity experience: Here, you can choose to take an amphibious boat or speedboat to go deep into the lake to watch the ice, touch the thousand-year-old glacier ice up close, and feel the magic and greatness of nature. If you like adventure, you can also try kayaking for two, shuttle between giant icebergs, play with seals, soar with seabirds, and enjoy an extremely romantic experience. - Filming location: The stunning scenery of the glacier lagoon has attracted the attention of many film production teams. Many film and television works have been filmed here, including the "007" series, "Tomb Raider", "Batman Begins" and "Interstellar", and it is known as "Hollywood's favorite alien secret place". 🌅【Best time to visit】 Diamond Beach and the glacier lagoon have different beautiful scenery throughout the year, but the best time to visit depends on your preference. If you like mild weather and long daytime, you can choose to go in the summer (June to August), when there may be more tourists on the beach. If you want to enjoy the tranquil snow scenery and the aurora, you can choose to go in the winter (December to February of the following year), but you need to pay attention to warmth and safety. 🚗【Transportation method】 - Self-driving: Rent a car and go from the Ring Road. You can arrange your itinerary freely and enjoy the beautiful scenery of Iceland along the way. - Join a tour group: Choose a tour to Iceland's largest glacier lagoon, Jökulsárlón, or join some tour packages, such as a six-day tour around the island in summer or a seven-day tour around the island in winter. 💡【Notes】 - Although Diamond Beach is not as dangerous as Reynisfjara Black Sand Beach, you still need to pay attention to safety when visiting, stay away from the water, and avoid climbing icebergs, because icebergs may be unstable and flip over unexpectedly. - As the ice beach may be windy and humid, it is recommended to wear warm and waterproof clothing, as well as sturdy shoes or boots to prevent slipping. - When visiting in summer, remember to bring sunscreen, sunglasses and a hat to protect yourself from UV rays. "Iceland's Diamond Beach and Glacier Lagoon are precious gifts given to us by nature. Here, you can feel the magic and infinite charm of nature, and let your soul get an unprecedented baptism. If you also want a different trip, then don't miss this dreamland!"
