Santiago Guesthouse Kyoto

Gion/Kiyomizu Temple
This guesthouse is located near Kiyomizudera. You can literally walk there. It takes only 10 minutes walk to the train station which is very convenient. There's no elevator. You may have a hard time if you have big luggage with you (first hand experience). The bed is very comfortable. Before I even checked in, someone spilled sauces over one of the refrigerators and it stayed like that all of my stays, but other than that, this guesthouse is very clean. Also, the staff is kind and caring. When they know I'm Thai, they spoke my language! I was impressed. Overall, this is a great place to stay with affordable price.

Although it’s a bit far to the Kyoto train station, if you know how to take the bus, there are 3 bus stops + 1 Shijouoomiya train station which are really closed to this hotel (only 6 to 10 mins walk), which can lead you to anywhere of the tourist spots !! 👍🏻 hotel located in a quiet street which gives you a well sleep at night. 😴The hostel of this hotel are helpful, they helped us to return our kimono via the local post since we are rush in time to travel around. 📤 They replied the email daily and fast, at the first day we couldn’t find their reception to check in (Just found out it’s a self check system that they had already sent you a password to your email earlier). 📧 They helped us to take care of our luggage after we check out our room, as we were going to nearby spots after the living. All the facilities and equipment are clean, you can tell they had mopped the floor, clean anywhere of the kitchen, restroom and sleeping room all the way around and leaving with no dust. 🪣👍🏻 my conclusion is, I will definitely come back to book their hotels, their signature brand “Risshisha”, next time when I come back to travel again. Once again, thank you for your 5 stars services !! 🙏🏻🙏🏻

The room was booked on the day of the trip. The discount turned out very good. The place in the four-bedroom room is 1200 yen. This included the tourist collection of the city of Kyoto 200yen, tax 8%, bucking commission, delicious breakfast, soap, shampoo, toothpaste, hair tug, stuff tug and towel. In the kitchen, alcohol for people who want. Excluding all of this from 730 rubles, I lived, it goes out, almost free. Well in the normal days they are not expensive. Behind the stand the master of Tommy himself. polite, speaks well English, always smiles. The room is spacious, the air conditioner, the living room is cozy with a large TV and a lot of tourist facilities on the shelves. There is a terrace. on the street is quiet, there is a bunch of cafes and supermarkets next to it. Metro and electricians are also nearby.

Gion/Kiyomizu Temple
It takes 15 minutes to walk from the subway station. It is a bit far. Yasaka Shrine and Kiyomizu Temple are nearby. It is very convenient for sightseeing. It is very clean. There is no problem with mixed sex accommodation. Everyone has a sense of boundaries. It is safe. The price is also cheap in Kyoto. It is very cost-effective.
Kyoto Hana Hostel

I stayed in Hana Hostel for one night and had a bunk bed. When I arrived early, I was informed that the room was not ready yet, but I could leave my luggage in the luggage room. Also, the staff settled my registration and showed me around the hostel. There is a pretty large kitchen with free tea and coffee that you can brew. I enjoyed the genmaicha here. In this space, you can also interact with other guests. Wifi here is generally strong but it can disconnect you at times. Like any hostel, you are expected to fit your own sheets in the bed, and remove them at check out. The bed was pretty comfortable and I liked that they provided curtains around the bunk beds for privacy and to block out the light in the event you want to sleep earlier than other bunk bed guests. The shower has soap and shampoo provided. If you didn't bring your own towel, you can rent one for ¥100. Overall this was a pretty good stay, and I liked that Lawson's was just on the opposite street so it was easy to get breakfast.
Uji Tea Inn

Booked two nights at Cha Inn, day 2 was room 206, the tatami, old furniture and small decorations were very nice, the air conditioner heated the room very quickly. Although it was a shared bathroom and the room was full that night, it was still very convenient. The only downside was that the window was facing a small street and there was occasional car noise, but it happened to be a little tired after walking for a few days, and I soon snored.

It was so enjoyable to stay here. There is a traditional rekan with all attributes to feel really Japanese culture. The hotel is located in quite area, around 15 minutes from Kyoto station. The administration explained all the rules that you should know. It has very thin walls so it’s possible to hear the neighbors, but for one night it was pretty ok. There is shower, toilet and sink in the room. Also teapot, teabags and hair dryer, so it’s very comfortable to live here. I appreciate to stay in such a hotel, thanks for great experience.

Kawaramachi
Ryokan hosted by 3 elderly ladies. Peaceful, pleasant stay. The room is traditional tatami and futon - even in early spring, room was warm with heater and clean, futon was thick and comfortable. Room big and well furnished, even has a small table for ocha and okashi. Toilet was my favourite - separate toilet and bathing room, comes with tub to soak in like in the old time jap dramas. Hot water and strong. Location convenient near all impt attractions, but also not too near to be hectic and crowded. Loved the stay!

I just saw a three out of five review provided by lady who called herself a “foodie”, whatever that actually means! Look, you are trying to find the local experience meaning you get local living conditions and food. If you don’t want that or can’t accept it, go somewhere else. However, if that is what you are actually looking for, you came to the right place. This is not a fancy Roykan, but the staff is hard working and go out of there way to ensure you have a pleasant stay. We had nothing but great interaction with them, and they catered to our every wish. Very interesting dining experience and I’m unfortunately a bit picky... but I ended up trying lots of different new things. Awesome location making it easy to go anywhere, I highly recommend this place and the staff.

If you are a traveller like us who would like some more privacy, this place is not exactly for you. Don't get me wrong, the hotel staff are absolutely wonderful. Just that most things are communal and you have wait for your turn to shower and finish by 11.35. The walls are quite thin indeed, you can easily hear people walking on the hallway or simply chatting in their rooms.
