Düsseldorf Carnival | Dusseldorf
Celebration
The Düsseldorfer Karneval is Düsseldorf's version of the "Fifth Season" (Carnival). The Düsseldorfer Karneval opens on 11 November each year with the symbolic ritual of awakening Hoppditz and ends with a funeral on Ash Wednesday the following year. The carnival period, known as the Carnival session, is the climax of the state capital's social life, with numerous rallies and balls. Along with the events in Cologne and Mainz, the Düsseldorfer Karneval parade is one of the largest in Germany. The annual television broadcast has made the Düsseldorfer Karneval famous throughout the country.
