Bel Canto Boot Camp's Guest Series kicks off welcoming acclaimed tenor and teacher Jack Li Vigni. Jack will join us for a discussion of his teaching approaches and demonstrate exercises which we will try as a group and individually, as desired. Depending on time and number of attendees, there may be the opportunity for some singers to offer arias or portions of arias individually for Jack's input. Sicilian tenor Gioacchino Lauro (Jack) Li Vigni has performed at top international venues, including the Metropolitan Opera, Oper Frankfurt, Dutch National Opera, L’Opéra de Marseille, Lyric Opera of Chicago, Concertgebouw, Beijing Opera, Sao Paolo Opera, and others. Trained by his father, celebrated tenor Salvatore Li Vigni, as well as Carlo Bergonzi, Arrigo Pola, Salvatore Fisichella, and others, he is a voice instructor for the prestigious Jette Parker Young Artists Programme at the Royal Opera House (Covent Garden). His students have performed on every major operatic stage and recorded for major record labels. Many are recent winners and finalists at major competitions such as Operalia, BBC Cardiff Singer of the World, and the Tenor Viñas International Singing Competition. They have attended young artists programs at Covent Garden, Bayerische Staatsoper, Deutsche Oper Berlin, Komische Oper Berlin, Theater an der Wien, Oper Frankfurt, and Staatsoper Stuttgart. Mr. Li Vigni is the founder and general director of the Mediterranean Opera Studio and Festival in Sicily, which provides a platform for the development of young artists. Bel Canto Boot Camp's Guest Series kicks off welcoming vocal coach and pianist Katelan Trần Terrell from the Metropolitan Opera and Akademia Operowa of the Teatr Wielki. Singers will be arranged from those who sign up from the class and we will aim to make sure as many singers as wish to sing for Katelan are able to within the time allotted. Pianist Katelan Trần Terrell has been a member of the Metropolitan Opera music staff since 2019. Prior to her appointment to full-time staff at the Met in 2021, she served for two seasons as opera coach and collaborative piano teacher at the Opera Academy of the Grand Theatre-National Opera in Warsaw, where she remains guest faculty. Ms. Terrell has also coached at the Tokyo International Vocal Arts Academy, the Feliks Nowowiejski Music Academy in Bydgoszcz, and at the Chautauqua Institution Voice Program. As a song recitalist, she has performed at Carnegie Hall, Alice Tully Hall, The Morgan Library, The Red House, and Wigmore Hall, where she and tenor Matthew Swensen were the recipients of the 2019 Jean Meikle Prize for Best Duo at the Wigmore Hall/Independent Opera International Song Competition. Ms. Terrell received a Bachelor of Music in Piano Performance and Literature at the Eastman School of Music under Nelita True, and her Master of Music in Collaborative Piano at the Juilliard School under Margo Garrett, Jonathan Feldman, JJ Penna, and Brian Zeger.
