Beyond Chatbots: Understanding Agentic AI in Legal | Cleary Gottlieb Steen & Hamilton LLP
May 19, 2025 (UTC-4)ENDED
New York
The legal profession has embraced AI chatbots and assistants, but a new frontier is emerging: agentic AI systems that can autonomously plan, execute tasks, and make decisions within defined parameters. Join us at Cleary Gottlieb for an evening exploring how these self-directed AI agents are poised to transform the practice and business of law.
We'll begin with a 10-minute primer from an AI expert to demystify agentic AI and establish a common vocabulary. Then, our distinguished panel of legal technologists, practitioners, and innovators will dive deep into the practical implications: What tasks can these systems handle today? What are the ethical and regulatory considerations? How might autonomous AI reshape the delivery of legal services? This isn't about hype—it's about understanding the real capabilities, limitations, and opportunities of AI systems that can act independently to support legal work. Whether you're a tech-curious attorney, legal operations professional, or innovation leader, you'll leave with actionable insights about this next wave of legal technology.

Pulitzer Prize finalist
Yiyun Li’
s
Things in Nature Merely Grow
is a remarkable, defiant work of radical acceptance that considers the loss of Li’s son James. It is a book that weaves clarity of thought out of an unfathomable experience, a book that matters immensely.
“There is no good way to state these facts, which must be acknowledged,” Li writes at the beginning of Things in Nature Merely Grow. “My husband and I had two children and lost them both: Vincent in 2017, at sixteen, James in 2024, at nineteen. Both chose suicide, and both died not far from home.”
There is no good way to say this—because words fall short. It takes only an instant for death to become fact, “a single point in a timeline.” Living now on this single point, Li turns to thinking and reasoning and searching for words that might hold a place for James. Li does what she can: “doing the things that work,” including not just writing but gardening, reading Camus and Wittgenstein, learning the piano, and living thinkingly alongside death.
This is a book for James, but it is not a book about grieving or mourning, about something that has an afterwards or an endpoint. As Li writes, “The verb that does not die is to be. Vincent was and is and will always be Vincent. James was and is and will always be James. We were and are and will always be their parents. There is no now and then, now and later, only, now and now and now and now.” Things in Nature Merely Grow tells the truth about loss as best words can, and challenges us to live with a measure of Li’s rigor, grace, and understanding. It is a book that testifies to its author’s indomitable spirit.

Transactional Foreign Policy and the End of the Liberal Order? | Serendipity Labs - Grand Central NYC
May 20, 2025 (UTC-4)ENDED
New York
The second Trump presidency seems to mark a decisive break with the value-based, liberal order that has shaped global politics since World War II. Emphasizing a more transactional approach to foreign policy—favoring deals over traditional diplomacy—Donald Trump’s return to the White House might create far-reaching consequences for our Western alliances, as well as for global governance, security, trade, and multilateral cooperation.
This shift challenges the norms and institutions that have long underpinned international collaboration, raising fundamental questions about the future of U.S. leadership on the world stage. What does this mean for Europe, NATO, and the balance of power in regions from the Indo-Pacific to the Middle East? Join
1014

About the Artist:
Jeffrey Gibson
grew up in major urban centers in the United States, Germany, and Korea, where he absorbed the transgressive soundtrack of the 1980s through limited access to MTV. Gibson graduated from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago in 1995 and received a Master of Arts in painting at the Royal College of Art, London, in 1998. While in Chicago he also worked as a research assistant on the Native American Graves Protection and Repatriation Act (NAGPRA) for the Field Museum, a formative experience that fostered an ongoing interest in questions of ownership and notions of cultural translation. Though trained as a painter, Gibson began incorporating materials and techniques that deliberately reference his heritage—such as raw hides and bead work—around 2010. A major turning point in his career, in 2012 he presented ‘one becomes the other,’ his first solo exhibition of sculpture and video, at Participant Inc. Sculpture, moving image, and sound have since become an integral aspect of his practice. He is known for his immersive, multi-sensory installations that invoke and interweave such disparate contexts as faith-based spaces of communion and night clubs.

The Invisible Spy | Italian American Museum
May 24, 2025 (UTC-4)ENDED
New York
The Invisible Spy tells the story of America's first secret agent of WWII (Ernest Cuneo, an Italian-American former NFL player turned White House insider) who worked with Churchill's spies at Rockefeller Center, including his pal Ian Fleming (who even dedicated one of his James Bond novels to Cuneo). This biography is fundamentally about the origins of U.S. intelligence, the fight against Nazis, and the effort of Churchill's spies at Rockefeller Center to convince America to get into the war. It also touches on Russian "double agents" during the Cold War, the early days of the NFL, the Hollywood/Broadway worlds of Cuneo as private lawyer for media star Walter Winchell, and Cuneo's influence on Fleming's massively popular James Bond novels and movies. It also explores the strong sense of being an Italian-American in the mid-20th Century for both Cuneo, a feeling shared by his first boss, Fiorello LaGuardia.
Seating at 2:45 p.m. Ticket includes free acess to the Museum's current exhibit.

Fleet Week Bash 2025 I Midtown NYC I 21 & Over I DJ, Dancing, Apps & More! | The Dean NYC
May 24, 2025 (UTC-4)ENDED
New York
Made famous by Carrie Bradshaw, each year, thousands of single sailors descend upon New York City for a weekend of freedom, booze and patriotic shenanigans. Here is your opportunity to cross hooking up with a fleet week sailor off of your "to-do" list. At the minimum at least come out and share a drink or two with one of our admirable servicemen and women.
The benefits of a sailor fling? They tend to be young, super fit, neat, well-mannered and most importantly...shipping out in a few days. Your "Mr./Ms. Right Now" knight in "Tide-white" shining armor.
This event is open to everyone 21 and over
Check out my tips for snagging a sailor during Fleet Week in the
NY Post
.
What to expect:
This fun, Midtown mixer goes from 7pm to 11:30pm
Service men & women in uniform drink free from 7 to 8pm
DJ spinning Hip-Hop, R&B, EDM and Top 40
Professional Photographer to capture all of the action
Music and dancing
If you're lucky....
