Enter The Sound Apothecary for a Ceremony of deep Sound Magick infused with candle light and incense ...
We will soon be crossing over the threshold into Samhain. the last cross quarter point on the wheel of the year. Samhain is a fire festival and marks the beginning of the dark part of the year on 31st October also known as Halloween or All Hallows eve.
This evening is a prelude where we will journey into the mythic underworld for powerful reflection guided by the hypnotic drum beat and crystal singing bowls composed to lead the brain into an altered state of consciousness to enhance insight and the nervous system into deep rest. Samhain is traditionally a time to reflect on people and life experiences which have passed and to remember one’s ancestors when the veils between the physical and spirit world are believed to be thinner. October is called witching season for a reason, with its opportunity to focus in on this liminal space for introspection and release and honour what has passed, crystallising what remains. Our drum journey and ritualistic focus will be an exploration into the Ancient Greek myth of Persephone and the concept of the underworld as a place of creative and personal transformation. This ritual is always a powerful one - mythic stories can serve as powerful mirrors of reflection for our own lives.
Persephone's story is intertwined with the ebb and flow of the cycle of life. In Ancient Greek mythology, Persephone descends to the underworld in Autumn and returns every spring. The High Priestess archetype of the tarot is associated with Persephone ... they are both priestesses of the hidden realms.
This ceremony is curated to focus in on personal and creative insight and to ground and centre into this darker phase of the year. As we descend into winter, we have the opportunity to illuminate with inner reflection. The Symbolic Power of the Mythical Underworld
In Ancient Greek mythology, a katabasis was a journey to the Underworld. A symbolic descent into the depths of the psyche. The word comes from the Greek words κατὰ (katà) 'down', and βαίνω (baínō) 'go'). The Underworld was not only seen as a place to commune with the spirits, it was also an invitation to mine the subconscious for creative gold to illuminate the inner landscape … As a prelude to visionary ritual the ancients burned precious incense, we will follow this practice with a hand made blend created by the sound apothecary including frankincense, sandarac gum and oppoponax and other resins known for their psychoactive and mind relaxing properties.
