Make two different styles of journals to record your thoughts or sketches! Join Laura from L & S Crafts for a fun, informative journal making workshop at the beautiful Howsham Mill between York and Malton. Over the day you will learn how to make two different kinds of journals: a multi-section leather journal and a Japanese stab bound notebook. In the morning, during this extended version of our normal Wild Harvest workshop you will learn how to make a leather journal with multiple paper sections. You will choose your leather, paper and thread colours, then decide whether to finish with a button-tab or thonging. You can take inspiration from the beautiful surroundings and embellish your finished journal with extra leather motifs or embroidery. In the afternoon, you will learn the art of Japanese stab binding in this relaxing session. You will be introduced to several different traditional stitch patterns and can choose from a selection of patterned cover papers and colourful thread to create your own unique notebook (or several!) to take away. This workshop is perfect for beginners to papercrafts. All equipment and materials will be provided, however you are welcome to bring your own paper, buttons or beads to incorporate if you would like. Hot drinks will be provided. Please bring a packed lunch to enjoy either indoors or outside in the lovely woodland surroundings. The venue has free parking and composting toilets. Please note Howsham Mill itself is approximately 1/4 mile walk from the carpark along an uneven path. We recommend that you wear comfortable clothing and footwear that you don’t mind getting a bit muddy. Minimum age for participants is 18 years. Biker Down is all about promoting safety and awareness for bikers in our community through workshops and training sessions * Please note, there is limited parking at this Fire Station * If you were the first on the scene of an accident involving a biker, would you know what to do? Would you know who is most at risk, how to protect the area or whether you should remove the helmet of a downed rider? Actions taken in the first few moments after an accident can be crucial in minimising injuries and can make a real difference to the lives of those involved. But there can be some uncertainty about what to do in these situations. Biker Down is a free training course run by bikers for bikers, designed to answer these uncertainties. The course uses the expertise of the emergency services and Road Safety Officers to prepare motorcyclists should the worst happen on the roads. This is a FREE three hour course that covers the following topics:Crash Scene Management – advice from emergency service personnel on how to protect a casualty and other road users who may have stopped to assist. Casualty Care – a motorcycle specific input, looking at basic lifesaving skills such as CPR, airway management and helmet removal (when & how).
