The Xiamen Marathon was founded in 2003 and has been held for 22 consecutive years. It is the first World Athletics "Platinum Label" event in the world every year and is known as the "most beautiful marathon track in the world". It is a three-authoritative certified event by the World Athletics Federation (W.A), the Association of International Marathons and Road Races (AIMS), and the Chinese Athletics Association (CAA). In recent years, adhering to the concept of "international, professional, diverse, and loving" in organizing events, exploring the path of sustainable development of events, it won the World Athletics "Global Special Contribution Award" in 2023, and won the world's first "Representative Event for Sustainable Development" awarded by the World Athletics Federation in 2024 and the 2023 China Athletics Association Road Running Event Typical Case "Influential Event". Xiamen has also become the only "marathon city" in China because of the Xiamen Marathon.
