In 2015, Devarrow self-released The Great Escape, a collection of eleven songs written in a leaky-roofed apartment while living in Vancouver for a winter. To support the release, Devarrow toured Canada extensively as a one-man-band in 2015 and 2016, focusing on creating an energetic, captivating and intimate live show performed in the raconteur style. He is best known for having played the first Jason Voorhees as a child in the iconic final Crystal Lake scenes in the Paramount horror film Friday the 13th. A native New Yorker, Ari Lehman grew up in Westport, CT, where he trained in Classical Music and Jazz Piano. Lehman was presented with an All-State Award for Excellence in Jazz Piano and a scholarship to Berklee School of Music by the famous jazz educator, Dr. Billy Taylor After the release of Friday the 13th, Lehman returned to New York City where he enrolled at New York University and concentrated on Big Band Orchestration and Jazz Piano, where he studied with the likes of Vladmir Shafranov. (+ fees via Eventbrite) $35 night of. all ages/licensed THE HUMAN RIGHTS (Toronto, Ontario) The Human Rights first came together in 2007, around the talents and vision of lead singer and Toronto Reggae lion Friendlyness (Big Sugar, Culture Shock, Truth And Rights), drummer Eric Woolston (Maylee Todd, The Hooded Fang), versatile bassman Tyler Wagler and the band’s original keyboardist Bernie Pitters (Toots & The Maytals, Hit Squad), who passed away in 2023 and in whose loving memory the band continues forward. The Human Rights quickly gained a reputation as Toronto’s house Reggae band of sorts, sharing the stage and often backing the likes of The Wailers, Gregory Isaacs, Beres Hammond, John Holt, Freddie McGregor, Sanchez, and other top international Reggae artists. In 2014, much-loved Toronto vocalist Tréson (who has recorded with the likes of Black Uhuru spearhead Mykal Rose) joined the band, giving The Human Rights a distinctively powerful two-man front line that seamlessly moves between modern roots reggae, lovers rock, soul, R&B and dancehall vibes. After Bernie Pitters’ health began preventing him from touring, Canadian Reggae keys legend Dave Jackson stepped in on the bubble and skank. The Declaration of Human Rights horn section is now led by acclaimed trombonist Tom Richards, who is best known from his genre-bending work with The Heavyweights Brass Band and Riverrun. By the end of 2024, The Human Rights will have played over 250 festival and club shows across Canada and the United States. Their live highlights include: The New Orleans Reggae Festival, Austin Reggae Festival, Hillside Festival, Harbourfront Centre, Roy Thomson Hall, The Phoenix Concert Theatre and many other top venues across North America. FERAL MINKS (Kitchener, ON) Kitchener-based rock band Feral Minks began as a solo project in the throes of the pandemic, initiated by lead singer and guitarist Kent Merriam. By early 2021, Merriam had released the debut EP Loam under the Feral Minks name, which quickly garnered attention from Jay Emmons of The Glorious Sons. This led to Emmons and his longtime collaborator Steve Kirstein taking the reins for the production of Feral Minks' second EP. To complete their lineup, the band enlisted experienced rock musicians from the Kitchener scene: Algernon Friolet, Jay Hogle, and Ryan Whitney. Since the release of their debut self-titled EP in the fall of 2023, Feral Minks has been on an unstoppable trajectory. In 2024, they clinched HTZ FM’s prestigious Rock Search title, joining the ranks of Canadian legends like Finger 11, The Trews, and The Glorious Sons. They have performed with City and Colour at the Tall Pines Music and Arts Festival and shared the stage with The Glorious Sons at the Key To Bala.
