Celebration
The 2026 Chongqing Spring Festival Lantern Festival—the "Xi Huan Ni" Garden Expo Park Large-Scale Water Lantern Festival, themed "A Sea of Lights Reflecting the Mountain City," is the largest water lantern festival in western China. This festival is hosted by Chongqing Daily Newspaper Group and organized by Chongqing Upstream Finance Media Co., Ltd. Spanning over 1,000 acres, it is divided into six themed areas: "Colorful New Year," "Auspicious Blessings," "Sun, Moon, and Stars," "Trendy Chinese Style," "Otherworldly Wonderland," and "National Glory," comprising 15 large lantern sets. Unlike traditional land-based lantern festivals, the "Xi Huan Ni" festival moves its stage to Longjing Lake in the Garden Expo Park, covering over 1,000 acres, including 800 acres of water. This festival features five highlights, allowing visitors to "step into the lanterns" for a three-dimensional immersive experience: Holographic Water Screen + Water Dance. More than just displaying images, it tells the story of Chongqing's development, creating a moving scene of "people + light + water" through water dance, perfect for taking stunning photos. The 100-meter-long "Golden Mountain Under the Sun" lantern display is a uniquely romantic feature of Chongqing. The lights reflect on the lake, recreating the grandeur of sunrise, allowing visitors to experience the magnificence of Chongqing's mountains and waters from the shore. The "Heroine Qin Liangyu" lantern display, modeled after Qin Liangyu, uses a youthful expression of traditional elements, creating an interactive light and shadow wall using paper-cutting techniques. Visitors can touch and piece together patterns. The "Holding Hands to Light Up" interactive light display features a surprise for couples: holding hands triggers a lighting effect, instantly creating a romantic atmosphere. Singles can also enjoy it with friends and family. The "Intangible Cultural Heritage Interactive Light Wall" is an interactive installation using paper-cutting techniques. Touching the paper allows visitors to piece together patterns, a fun activity for adults and children alike, allowing them to experience the charm of traditional culture.

Chongqing
Celebration
The inaugural lantern display at this year's Spring Festival Lantern Festival cleverly weaves Hechuan elements into the language of light. The eaves of the Wenfeng Pagoda, a landmark witnessing the city's transformation, flow with the passage of time amidst the lights, echoing the shimmering river surface and recreating the ancient scene of "Wenfeng Reflecting the River" with renewed charm. The industrial relics of the Fourth Cotton Mill are revitalized in warm yellow tones. This is not merely a simple light decoration, but a dialogue about the city's memory and future. Eleven more themed lantern displays will be illuminated and updated successively. The people of Hechuan deeply understand that the best hospitality is to sincerely share their stories. Therefore, in the lantern designs, you can read the wisdom of the people of Hechuan in coexisting with water, and feel the open-mindedness brought by the confluence of three rivers. Between light and shadow, Hechuan lays bare itself.
