Join us for our monthly Wildlife Tots session at Blashford Lakes! Our Wildlife Tots sessions involve heading out into the reserve and exploring, sometimes involving a storybook, other times themed around what nature has to offer at that time of year! These sessions are an opportunity to learn about wildlife whilst exploring outside and usually make something using natural materials. Please note that tickets are required for children only, but all children must be accompanied by an adult and children will at all times be the responsibility of the accompanying adult(s). This is an outdoor session, come rain or shine! Please wear outdoor footwear suitable for walking over un-even ground and dress for the weather on the day. When and where? Come along and learn about the plants that can be used to dye wool in a vibrant range of colours with an emphasis on the dyes used by our ancestors which can easily be grown today. See the whole dyeing process taking place from harvesting the roots and leaves, mordanting the wool and watching the colours develop in the dyebath. Embrace your wild side - what to expect: This event takes place outdoors, so be prepared to be outside in all weathers. If, however, the weather is extremely windy or heavy rain, there is a possibilty the event will be cancelled. Where to meet Please meet at our Education Centre, which is a 15 minute walk from the visitor centre and car park. What to bring/wear Our events mostly take place outside so brace yourself for the Yorkshire weather! We'd recommend sturdy and waterproof footwear or wellies, and lots of layers!
