Cultural Experiences
All aboard for a fun day trip to ride the Cooperstown & Charlotte Valley Railroad! Operated by the Leatherstocking Chapter NRHS, the railroad dates back to 1865 to connect the village of Cooperstown with the Albany & Susquehanna Railroad. The first trains ran in 1869, and soon the A&S became part of the Delaware & Hudson Railway, and the Cooperstown & Charlotte Valley Railroad became its Cooperstown Branch. The line was sold to Walter Rich and his Delaware Otsego Corp. and operated under its old name. Freight and passenger trains were operated through the mid-1980s, until service was suspended in 1987. It was purchased by Leatherstocking Chapter in 1996, and has been operated as a heritage railroad out of Milford ever since. Plan on joining us for a day trip to the Cooperstown & Charlote Valley Railroad (CACV) on Saturday, September 6. We’ll depart Industry Depot at 8:00AM on our 40-seat motor coach. A second pick-up stop will be made at 8:50am at the Geneva exit of the New York State Thruway for those who wish to board there. We expect to arrive at CACV by 11:45am where we will enjoy box lunches and tours of the museum at Milford Depot until boarding time at 2:30. Following our two-hour round trip excursion to Cooperstown and return, we will board the bus for the short trip over to Brooks' House of BBQ in nearby Oneonta. This well known family operated establishment has been serving up great barbecue since 1951 (dinner is on your own and not part of the ticket price). After dinner, we will make the return trip to Rochester, making a drop-off at Geneva exit at 9:00pm, and arriving at Industry by 10:00pm. Trip includes round-trip deluxe motorcoach transportation from Industry Depot at R&GV Railroad Museum or Geneva Thruway Exit, morning snack on board the bus, tickets to ride the Cooperstown & Charlotte Valley Railroad, and box lunch. Limited to 40 seats! $129.00 Per Person (does not include Eventbrite fees). $129.00 Per Person Bus departs Industry Depot at 8:00am Returning at 10:00pm Schedule and equipment subject to change without notice. Arts Fine Art
Coastal day of outdoor drawing & printing Come join us for a fun-filled day of creativity at Botany Bay Beach. ‘Drawings have an immediacy. In a good session, drawing can be like going for a rugged, physical adventure on a blustery day with changing conditions of light and rain. A day passed without drawing is a day lost’. Antony Gormley. This event is perfect for artists and nature lovers alike. Spend the day drawing and printing inspired by the beautiful coastal surroundings. Whether you're a beginner or an experienced artist, this event is for everyone. The morning will consist of a variety of drawing activities using diverse locally found materials, as you are led on a short beach ‘walk and draw’ by artist Fiona Fouhy. Expect to be refreshed in your body and art practice. After a print demonstration by Fiona, you will be released on the cliff-tops to do meditative monoprinting. You will go home with drawings and prints, invigorated and full of sea air. All art materials will be supplied. You will need to bring a packed lunch, an apron and wear weather-appropriate clothes. The day will take place even if it is raining, but may be cancelled if it is too windy. The workshop is less suitable for people who have difficulties with mobility but contact Fiona directly to discuss this ( fifouhy@hotmail.com ). More information will be sent to participants nearer to the time. For those who have booked, there will be additional activities offered, which you will be told about after booking your place. Cultural Experiences
The Sacred Landscape Conference is back! Join us for a day of enlightening discussions and immersive experiences at the Tutbury Old School House . Dive into the rich history and spiritual significance of landscapes around the world. Connect with like-minded individuals and experts in the field. From ancient sites to modern interpretations, this conference will broaden your perspective on the sacredness of our surroundings. Don't miss out on this unique opportunity to explore the Sacred Landscape in a whole new light. Reserve your spot today! Crichton Miller - Discover the Hidden Codes of Our Past! Join Crichton on an eye-opening journey where ancient symbols meet modern technology. Imagine a living map—a sacred landscape that guides both our ancestors and today's AI. From Piazzi Smyth’s mysterious grave marker, combining Christian and pagan elements, to the Pyramid of Khufu and Dixon Relics re-engineered as ancient measuring tools, each artifact holds a secret message about our world. Learn how celestial alignments, like the Sarsen Stones under the Dragon constellation, and symbols once wielded by Assyrian kings, the Knights Templar, and beyond, reveal a shared, recursive memory encoded in stone. This lecture simplifies complex ideas into clear, visual stories that link past wisdom with modern science—showing that ancient methods of measurement and navigation are not just relics, but the blueprint for future innovation. Step into a world where history and technology whisper the same timeless secrets. Let's decode the mysteries together! Sian Sibley – The Living Soil Soil is the only reason that we are alive and while we worship the land in reality we should worship the top 3 inches of soil that is built on the bio mass from the previous years growth. We are deliberately harming this organism. This talk will be about the action of the mycelial networks in communication with trees and other plants and the importance of soil in our lives and why we have to work together to preserve it. Gordon The Toad - Celebrating Sacred Landscapes What makes a landscape sacred ? Gordon will talk about his vocation as Creeping Toad , working with groups to find ways of celebrating the places around them. These may be traditional sacred sites, or modern sculptured landscapes or the park at the end of the street. Recognising our relationships with places and appreciating how we value them is vital to their protection and our own well-being. Mark Olly - Revealing The Green Man Designed to impart a practical revelation of a deep and ancient mystery through archeological and historical case studies Revealing The Green Man will resurrect a long and ancient religion as old as time itself which is now challenging us to care for our environment in the modern world. Rather than just a cute chubby face peering at us through a veil of leaves, Mark will show that the green man will prove to be a true representation of the very essence of life. Alistair Hindmarsh and Steve Mitchell – More thoughts and experiments on Sacred Landscape Why do we feel special connections to nature or the divine in sacred places ? What is it about these places that draws us? We will take you on more journeys through the sacred landscape of the Dove Valley and beyond using our unique blend of scientific, psychic and par psychological analysis and techniques to explore and reveal more of its inner secrets. Cultural Experiences
Saturday, September 13, 1:00 – 4:00 p.m. CT This is a hybrid event. Join in person or online for a lecture, Q&A, and book signing with renowned author and speaker Caroline Myss! In this profound and transformative workshop, renowned medical intuitive and spiritual teacher Caroline Myss will offer a soul-centered perspective on health and healing, one that transcends traditional views and invites us to explore the energetic and spiritual dimensions of wellness. You’ll learn how every decision you make is a reflection of your inner relationship with power. Aligning with the power of love, rather than the love of power, can transform your life on every level. When Caroline began her work in the early 1980s, she believed illness was largely a result of the negative energy we created in our lives. Over time, however, her perspective evolved. She came to understand that human beings are far more intricate than simple cause and effect. Healing is not just about doing the "right" things; it is about how we understand and engage with the deeper truths of who we are. By the 1990s, she began exploring why so many people, even when given the tools and support to heal, chose not to use them. What she discovered is that healing often comes down to our relationship with power, the power of our choices, the power of our soul, and most importantly, our relationship with the power of grace. During this interactive workshop, Caroline will share powerful insights into the deeper mysteries of healing, personal empowerment, and our soul’s connection to the Divine. Together, we’ll explore the ways in which grace operates in our lives and how true healing requires us to recognize our place within the great web of life. This workshop is an invitation to awaken, to reflect, and to embrace the extraordinary grace that surrounds and lives within you. Registrants will receive on-demand access to recording(s) that can be viewed for two weeks following the conclusion of the program. Caroline Myss is a five-time New York Times best-selling author and internationally renowned speaker in the fields of human consciousness, spirituality and mysticism, health, energy medicine, and the science of medical intuition. Caroline established her own educational institute in 2003, CMED (Caroline Myss Education), which offers a diverse array of programs devoted to personal development and draws students from all over the world. Caroline is best known for her pioneering work in energy anatomy and medical intuition and contemporizing classical mystical teachings, as described in her best-selling book Anatomy of the Spirit. Program Format This is a live, interactive hybrid program that will also be recorded. The recording will be available for on-demand viewing for two weeks following the program date. Join us in person at 1926 N. Main Street, Wheaton, IL 60187 or join online via a YouTube link that will be emailed upon your registration. Arts Film
We will be at Acton Trussell Community Centre with a special family friendly 10th anniversary screening of Inside Out. This Pixar produced film follows the inner workings of the mind of Riley, a young girl who adapts to her family's relocation as five personified emotions administer her thoughts and actions. Growing up can be a bumpy road, and it's no exception for Riley, who is uprooted from her Midwest life when her father starts a new job in San Francisco. Like all of us, Riley is guided by her Emotions: Joy (Amy Poehler); Fear (Bill Hader); Anger (Lewis Black); Disgust (Mindy Kaling); and Sadness (Phyllis Smith). The Emotions live in Headquarters, the control centre inside Riley’s mind, where they help advise her through everyday life. As Riley and her Emotions struggle to adjust to a new life, turmoil ensues in Headquarters. Although Joy, Riley's main and most important Emotion, tries to keep things positive, the Emotions conflict on how best to navigate a new city, house and school. Some flashing lights sequences or patterns may affect photosensitive viewers.
