The Museo Nacional del Prado houses the world's largest and most important collection of Rubens' works. Thanks to a generous gift from the Carlos de Ambreres Foundation, the Museo Nacional del Prado will exhibit Rubens's late masterpiece, The Martyrdom of St. Andrew, from now until 2026. The work, along with its original frame, is on display in Room 16B of the Villanueva Building. Rubens created this work during the same period as his decorative scheme for the "Plaza degli Torre."

This exhibition will allow contemporary artists, art historians, and the Spanish public to gain a closer look at Hammershøi's work, which has previously received limited exposure. The exhibition's subtitle, "The Listening Eye," refers to the metaphorical connection between the tranquility and serenity found in Hammershøi's paintings and the artist's profound interest in music. The exhibition explores numerous themes throughout his work, such as the role of his wife, Ida Hilstead, in his creative process; his meticulous attention to interior spaces and their similarities to his architectural and landscape paintings; and his self-portrait as a painter in his later years.

This exhibition focuses on the work of Irma Álvarez-Laviada (born in Gijón in 1978), showcasing over thirty works created in the last decade, as well as paintings from the museum's collection. Álvarez-Laviada's works occupy an intermediate space between the inside and outside of the frame, utilizing industrial materials originally intended for practical use. Through this approach, she reflects on the boundaries between inclusion and exclusion within the Western modern art tradition: the lines between purity and decoration, aesthetic experience and economic and ideological considerations in art.

The museum, in collaboration with the TBA21 Thyssen-Bornemisza Center for Contemporary Art, presents the exhibition "The Pedagogy of War," showcasing the works of young Ukrainian artists Roman Shimei and Yarema Malashuk, exploring how Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine has reshaped public space. The two artists, recipients of the OFFSCREEN Curator Award in Paris, utilize surveillance footage from Kyiv to demonstrate how the violence and material pressures of war erode the rhythms of daily life and democratic structures. Their work reveals the fragility of peace, the beauty of emergencies, and the unsettling coexistence of forgetting and remembering, reminding us that the connections between conflict—political, emotional, and territorial—have a powerful shaping effect on identity, much like geography.
