Make-A-Waffle is an event raising money and awareness for the Make-A-Wish Foundation. Attendees can purchase a ticket to enjoy unlimited waffles and toppings. This will be a come-and-go event. However, all attendees are welcome to relax and eat. We will have a coffee bar and vendors supporting Make-A-Wish as well. Tickets will be sold for $8 online and $10 at the door. The Make-A-Wish Foundation is a 501c nonprofit organization founded in the United States that helps fulfill the wishes of children with critical illnesses between the ages of 2½ and 18. Summer Learning Institute: The Summer Learning Institute (SLI) is an intensive institute designed for Umoja Community program faculty, staff, and administration. The training immerses attendees in the philosophy, pedagogy, theoretical foundations, and best practices based on the Umoja Community Education Foundation. Educators from California Community Colleges have the opportunity to engage in courageous and bold discussions about education practices that stimulate the genius of our students. Participants are encouraged to attend in college teams of 5 for more intentional knowledge sharing and coherence making at their respective institutions. Examples of the content presented at the SLI include program structure and implementation, critical exploration of African centered socialization and education, student success metrics and data-based strategies, exploration of the Umoja Practices, and culturally relevant approaches to college instruction and student support services.
