The "Gongara Fire Festival" held on August 24th every year is a traditional fire festival representing northern Osaka (Kitasedo Inland Sea). It is said to have originated in 1644 during the Edo period and is held to pray for "safety at home" and "fire prevention and disaster avoidance." On the day of the festival, a huge bonfire was lit at Mayuyama, the symbol of Ikeda, like the farewell bonfire in Kyoto. A giant torch weighing 100 kilograms and 4 meters long paraded through the city, burning for a total of 3 kilometers. The grand parade attracts many tourists every year.
