Girls in Gis Texas - Alamo Event | Duran Brothers BJJ
Sports & Fitness
Are you ready for some great Jiu Jitsu? because we are!
Girls in Gis is a community of women and girls in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu that come together through donation based training events. They are hosted, instructed, and attended only by women and girls. It's our time to come together! All ages and skill levels from any academy affiliation are welcome to attend. No experience required. Our events are designed for 100% participation, but do allow chaperones to accompany underage participants as spectators.
Our events are donation based in order to provide equal opportunity to everyone. Your donations provide paid teaching opportunities for our guest instructor(s) and help to expand and make Girls in Gis programs such as our events, our leadership program and instructional training programs and our scholarships possible. If you are not able to make a donation please contact us and we will work with you so that you are able to participate.
You can also purchase a GIG t-shirt, patches and more GIG merchandise with your donation. All orders can be picked up during the event.

Guest instructors
: Aracelli Vasquez & Elsa Cardenas
Aracelli Vasquez
is a first degree black belt in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. 12 years ago, her cousin invited her to try a class and she quickly fell in love with the art of jiu jitsu. She has competed at many tournaments at different levels, but what keeps her training is the physical and mental challenge that BJJ provides. Her teammates have become her family and the art has allowed her to grow as a person. Her goal is for everyone she encounters to experience what she has experienced through this martial art, especially women. Her passion is to teach BJJ and make sure students have a positive, encouraging experience!
Elsa Cardenas
is a brown belt with 12 years of experience in Jiu-Jitsu. Her journey began through pure curiosity while she was working at her university recreation center and spotted two guys “wrestling.” They invited her to try and taught her a few moves. Intrigued, she began training and never looked back. Elsa is a decorated athlete, holding medals at IBJJf adult Pan-American, World No-Gi, and ADCC opens, as well as multiple superfight titles. Inspired by Girls in Gis, she founded RGV JiuJiteiras, an organization that hosts free women-only open mats in the RGV that provide a supportive space for women to train, learn, and grow together.
