Brixton Library is extremely proud to announce an exhibition of sixteen special edition prints by Sir Frank Bowling, OBE RA, one of Britain’s foremost contemporary abstract artists, best known for his abstract paintings which can be seen in museum collections all over the world. Sir Frank Bowling and DACS – the Design and Artists Copyright Society – began their collaboration with art publishers King & McGaw in 2021. The result is a collection of sixteen giclée prints of Bowling’s masterful paintings ranging from 1968 to 2020. Handmade in Sussex, the prints are produced in limited runs on 330gsm Somerset Velvet Cotton. The collection includes Bowling’s ‘map paintings’ that trace and layer stencils of countries and continents, and ‘pour paintings’ where acrylic paint is poured directly onto the canvas. The group of 16 prints includes Middle Passage, 1970, a rich, warm and vibrant work recently exhibited in the major group show Entangled Pasts: Art, Colonialism and Change at the Royal Academy of Arts, London. After providing an intimate and safe space to artists through Open Mic events, Kia Arts Production is delighted to invite you to its 2nd Showcase presenting artist Rita Tam. Showcase: Rita Tam is a guitarist, singer and songwriter passionate about all things creative. We met her at one of our Open Mics, and really enjoyed how she shares her work with sensitivity and generosity. Call her a later bloomer, Rita started writing songs and playing the guitar over 20 years ago. Since then she released three albums... with the latest one, 'Flores', that came out in 2021 following a bumpy year for everyone. Come and join us at the cozy KataKata in the heart of Brixton! Let Rita Tam transports you in moments inspired by a different world where nature awakens to speak new words. She will be accompained by bass guitarist Ronnie. Website Album preview Opening Act: Our opening act Michel Gelbart is a guitarist, singer and songwriter. Sometimes he plays covers in a rock band and other times focuses on heartfelt dynamic original compositions. His musical style is thankfully more varied than his wardrobe – from progressive rock to folky ballads! Michel can’t decide if he wants to rock your socks off or serenade you into a blissful trance, but one thing is for sure: he is here to make music that moves you – in every sense of the word. Soundcloud Location: The quirky and cosy KataKata restaurant in the heart of Brixton will be hosting our second Showcase. Cocktails, homemade juices and teas will be available for purchase. Please join us to discuss The Red and the Green. Free for all, everyone welcome to bring snacks and drinks to share. As the Easter Rebellion looms, tension mounts in the rain-soaked streets of Dublin. Tension is also ratcheting up at home. Pat Dumay is a Catholic and an Irish patriot. His relentlessly pious mother pursues her own private war with his stepfather, a man sunk in religious speculation and drink. Meanwhile Pat's Protestant soldier cousin, Andrew Chase-White, puzzles out his complex emotions about Ireland and the girl he loves. Weaving between them moves Millie Kinnard: fast, feminist, and only just respectable. Information Source: Lambeth Libraries | eventbrite
