Join us for “A Night for Literacy,” featuring a screening of the film SENTENCED at the Jackson Avenue Center on April 24, 2025. SENTENCED is a world-class documentary about the growing crisis of illiteracy in America that ends with hope. Together with the creator’s of SENTENCED, we are hosting a local showing of the film to both learn about the literacy crisis from a national and local perspective and to inspire our community to fight for literacy for ALL.
Following the screening, join moderator Pete Smith along with panelists, including Lucy Martin, co-producer of the movie, and distinguished leaders representing the education and philanthropic sectors, who will discuss how we all have a part to play in addressing illiteracy. All proceeds will go to UM Children's Literacy Project's 2025-2026 service project, where literacy kits will be distributed in Mississippi elementary schools. Refreshments will be provided.
This event is not meant for children due to mature content.
