Mal wütend, mal sarkastisch, immer jedoch mit einer großen Portion (Selbst-)Ironie nimmt sie sich »Globuli-Wegknusperer«, das »stärkere Geschlecht«, Wutbürger und Waldorf-Pädagog:innen vor. Spilker seziert präzise die Gegenwart, deutet auf Widersprüche, Schieflagen und Abgründe.
Die Veränderungen in ihrer Stadt Hamburg sind ein roter Faden ihrer Texte, die immer kleiner werdenden kulturellen Freiräume, die Gentrifizierung und das Wegbrechen einer politisierten Popkultur. Immer wieder nimmt Spilker die Vergangenheit in den Blick, nicht jedoch um sie zu verklären, sondern vielmehr um zu zeigen, wie wenig sich geändert hat – etwa am Alltagssexismus in der Popkultur: Nach wie vor dominiert der männliche Blick, nach wie vor ist das Älterwerden von Frauen im Pop ein blinder Fleck.
