The first time I lived in the orthodox squatter house, I was pleasantly surprised. The house is very distinctive. The sister of the hotel will not communicate with the translator because of the text but has been communicating with the translator. The breakfast is delicious. Everyone must order breakfast in advance. There is also a vinyl dish machine in the living room. It is very nostalgic and sentimental. Otsu is really a very quiet town, and on the last day of 2024 I spent a very peaceful day here.
Room is very spacious, comes with 2 sets of facial acre products both for man and woman
There's even a 6 CD player with preloaded CDs inside ranging from Jazz to sentimental songs for your relaxation
Food are delicious and nicely decorated
Every day it comes with some free local snacks like financiers and biscuits
One incident that didn't quite went well is early morning after breakfast
As we are rushing to head out before housekeeping and there's no more water in the room, we return to the dinning hall and try to ask the staff to help to fill up some water in their provided water bottle. one lady took over the bottle and head to the kitchen to fill up, but we can hear she's complaining to her colleagues about it.
Shortly, while handing over the bottle, she signal us to leave. We did so but once just stepped out, she simply slams the dinning hall shut! I was surprised by her reaction. It was quite rude of her to do that. If it's against the regulation, they can rightly say so and communicate upfront than doing this repulsive reaction
Overall, a nice stay amid a slight mark on the service rendered
The environment is quiet, there is Lawson and a supermarket for buying fruits and vegetables nearby, and it is very close to the scenic spots Hachimangu Shrine and Hachimanbori. The facilities are complete. Only one room has a wardrobe. I hope to add a clothes rack in the other room.
The pin to enter the house was wrong. Fortunately, we arrived in the afternoon and trip.com was able to help quickly. But the tablet in the room was broken and I couldn't check in/out. I had to notify the hotel through trip.com. Hope the hotel can take care of these contact facilities.
The room was new and spacious. Although two or three flying insects were found in the bathroom, it was difficult to understand and avoid. It was much better than Ji Yishengpu Turtle Well. Upgraded dinner was not bad, the buffet coffee machine soft drink, coffee was difficult to drink. Check out at 10 o'clock, the hot spring is open until 9:00 after breakfast, it is too late to soak. After checking out, it rained heavily. We sat in the lobby and waited for the rain to stop. The air conditioner was a bit cold. I wanted to borrow a bathrobe for the guests in the lobby. I was rejected and the service was disappointing.
The hotel's environment and rooms are very beautiful, and you can enjoy the beautiful natural scenery. Although there is no convenience store near the hotel, there are different drink options in the hotel. Although the hotel staff do not know much English, their service attitude is very friendly. It is a holiday Great place to relax
Family hotel, warm, delicious food, hot springs are not big, but there are not many rooms. When I checked in, I only had 2 groups of guests. There was a private style but there was an extra charge.
Well, for the price... it's a really good hostel.
The communal bath is large and the private showers are well-equipped. (I'm giving it a high rating for not having a communal shower.)
However, it might be a bit crowded.
The location is nearly impossible to get around without a car or bike.
I wonder if people in their 20s would find it easy to get around. I'm not sure about people in their 30s...
Even the desk staff aren't Japanese. It's incredibly global.
I thought I was in Europe.

I booked the VIP room and it was huge! It really felt like a traditional ryokan, which was superb! Having the onsen right in the room was also fantastic, honestly. I absolutely loved my stay here. It was so relaxing, and the lake view was just magnificent. Since I'll be in Kyoto for the next few days, I'm definitely coming back for another night to enjoy the onsen and the stunning view of Lake Biwa again.
The location is very quiet and calm. For those who want a break from the main cities this place is highly recommended. The hotel picked us up from the nearby station and the communication was very active and accommodating (I emailed them when we were in Kyoto station in advanced and once we reached the local station, their shuttle was already waiting for us 🥹). Biwako Valley is near so it was our only planned big activity in the area aside from walking along the quiet road and trying convenience store food and using the 24 hour laundry place nearby.
The food is very healthy and you will experience traditional Japanese service (they prepared colorful Yukatas for us and we wore them for bfast and dinner in their restaurant) . The private onsen was great and you can also use the public bath in the hotel itself. I cannot list everything but our experience here was truly amazing!

GGuest UserThis accommodation, Water House built by the famous architect William Merrell Vories is a house full of history; located in a very interesting neighbourhood steeped. We thoroughly enjoyed staying here and wish we had more than one night!
We highly recommend this accommodation for its history, its convenient location and a chance to stay in a culturally significant property such as The Waterhouse by Vories.

AA.Y.LSuch a lovely hostel to stay. The owner is very friendly. If you’re looking for a place that offers nature and rest, only 10 minutes away from Kyoto station. This is your place
HHellgaVery pleasant guest house on Nakasendo Old Road. Very quiet town, quiet and practically no tourists. Still around beauty, mountains and lots of tracking places. From the railway station to the guest house on foot 10-15, trains go often, it is very convenient, it is easy to get to neighboring cities more, to visit Sekigahara or Lake Biva. In the house very clean, atmospheric, many nice details of the interior. The common bathroom and toilet rooms are perfectly clean, everything was very comfortable. Big kitchen, dining room and living room for recreation. Beautiful zoning. The room is small but comfortable, everything is thought up to tiny things. For the local night lamp separate thank you! There is also a small garden, bicycle rental and laundry (washing + dry 300 ). The master speaks perfectly English. We arrived a little earlier than the settlement time, but no one was there, left the luggage in the parish and left for a walk because they could not call the left room. in the evening they returned and found a note with email, wrote, preparing for a long time to wait, But the owner arrived instantly and our things were waiting for us in the room. He personally showed us the device at home and offered tea. Thank you for the great time you spent here
GGuest UserLocation was great, next to the lake. Owners were nice.
Place was ok to stay considering the price.
The biggest issue is that wall are super thin and if you a light sleeper like me - you might have a problem :)
GGuest UserThe hotel and the Jinjin-ku, near the river, are eight minutes walk, a traditional Japanese-style hotel. There are many comics and models in the museum, which is believed to be the owner's collection. Dinner and breakfast are also traditional Japanese, and the accommodation room is tatami.
