Hostels in Canterbury, New Zealand

The quad room was really small; once our 24-inch suitcase was open, it practically blocked the entire aisle. Plus, the soundproofing wasn't great – we could hear our neighbors' conversations clearly. Definitely avoid rooms 2, 3, and 4, as they are right across from the shared bathroom, and the constant coming and going and door opening/closing is very disruptive. However, the location and views are unbeatable. Tekapo itself is tiny, so you can walk anywhere.

Due to the season, all the hotels in the area were booked out, so I had to stay in a dormitory room in this hotel. The hotel itself is nice. The room was very small, but clean and ok for this type of room. There is a shared kitchen, rest area, as well as laundry which is great. The location is 15-20 mins walk from the town center, but it’s ok. However, the service is not good. It was the male manager who checked me in. When I asked the manager if there was a breakfast option, he laughed at my face and told me: “Girl, your room is like what, 30 bucks and you want breakfast?”. This was really rude and unacceptable. Moreover, I didn’t even mean for the breakfast to be included in the room price, but wondered if I could buy one since I don’t have much experience of living in hostels. Therefore, I deduct some point for such an arrogant behavior from the staff who represent the hotel.

Located near the fun Regent;s street with lots of restaurants and bars, near the convention center and cathedral, but a bit farther away from the Riverside market etc (10-15 min walk). Staff is friendly, kitchen is really big and has everything, with lost of fridges and storage space. I booked the room for myself, it was very comfortable. They provide big towels, which is nice. No hair drier though. Right next to bus stop to airport.

The room was small but had everything I needed, which was very convenient. The kitchen was well-equipped with oil, salt, vinegar, and soy sauce, and had plenty of space for cooking. It's also close to the airport, and the path was well-lit the whole way, so I felt safe walking alone as a woman.

I really enjoyed staying at Dusky Lodge. Friendly staff , cosy room , nice communal areas and the bonus of a spa pool . Excellent value.

A short walk to the main town and has ample parking on the street. Check in and out were quick and easy. The room and bathroom itself was clean and comfortable. Minor note was that the sound insulation between the rooms are not as superb, so you could hear faint voices from the other room.

Location is very good close to everywhere, bus station to airport number 8 very easy to reach. Walk to park n restaurants. Staffs r friendly n helpful met 2guys receptionist all very nice.

Very interesting hostel. I would definitely go there again. Negative was only the automated check-in which always makes a hostel less social.

It was so hard to book a room at Mount Cook that I could only reserve a bed at this hostel a month in advance. The room was an 8-person dorm with bunk beds, and it was surprisingly clean for my first time staying in this kind of accommodation. It was a bit noisy with people coming and going due to the number of guests. There's a free communal kitchen with plenty of utensils, but you need to bring your own ingredients, oil, salt, and other seasonings. Laundry service costs extra. Free Wi-Fi is available, and many people gather outside after 10 PM to stargaze.

This Hotel is part of a bar and other facilities. Bathrooms and kitchens are shared and there is only a wash basin in the room. Generally quite quiet despite music and live bands in the evening. Friendly service and about 15 minutes into the CBG by bus. A 24 hour Mcdonald's is 50 metres up the road.
