This was the cheapest dormitory inn around Austin. I had no choice but to stay, but at night I don't know if there is a live house building, but I couldn't sleep because it was annoying from 10 to 1 o'clock. After that, the location was in the center of Austin, so it was not so inconvenient. Overall it was not beautiful, but it was a dormitory within the acceptable range. I don't want to stay again if I want to stay again.
This hostel is more like a shared apartment than a traditional hostel. However, I was satisfied. The bathroom was clean and the amenities met the minimum requirements. Since it's so inexpensive, I would book it again, although ideally, you'd need a car to explore everything in this location. My roommates were locals, not tourists.
The location is not very downtown, but after staying there, I realized that there is more life in the suburbs at night. It is a very comfortable youth hostel

TTracy MorganI scheduled a stay on the wrong date. The manager comped me $5. Not a big discount but every bit helps. The room was very clean though it had a strong bleach smell. Lots of contractors and their families staying in the hotel and talking outside our door til late and early next a.m.

GGuest UserThis was the cleanest and nicest experience I have ever had at a budget motel. The staff was really nice. It was a very busy weekend for the town (George Strait) and I don't think they were used to being fully booked up on one night and having to turn over the entire hotel for the next night being booked up with new guests. We arrived a little after check out and they didn't have a room quite ready yet, but we didn't have to wait long and they were very nice and apologetic about it. The property has clearly been renovated recently and was very clean. I share the same complaint as other reviews regarding the shower not having a door, curtain, or lip to catch the water and heat. We just kept the door shut and put a towel down and it wasn't that big of a deal, but definitely a design flaw. The door into the room also had some fitting issues. There were clear gaps. Luckily, this didn't cause any safety, noise, or temperature control issues, but again this was a clear design / fitting issue. Loved that they had a Firestick TV in the room and I was able to sign into my streaming services, because who watches live TV anymore? JK JK. We were right next to the highway, so you could hear cars passing by. If you like white noise while sleeping, this is a great substitute, but if you need dead quite, they offer free earplugs at the desk! The bed was not the best, but all-in-all this was a good place to hang your hat and call home for a night.
GGuest UserHadn't stayed at The Kendall for several years, so was looking forward to this trip. This is an older, historic property so I knew what to expect. It was nice to see that the bar and restaurant were open. The renovation was done really well. The outdoor patio offered a very nice view. The room, however, was a disappointment. The gap around the door barely allowed the lock bolt to catch. It also allowed an awful lot of light in the room. The bed or the room tilted so the foot end of the bed was higher than the head end. The mattress, and I use the term loosely, felt as old as I am. Reminded me of the feather beds at my grandma's hose as it caused you to roll to the middle of the bed. The shower in the old claw foot tub sprayed water over the shower curtain onto a bookshelf that was hanging on the wall and soaked the few items we had placed there. Thankfully, the supply of towels in the room was enough to clean up the water on the floor. The large water bug didn't seem to mind the added moisture.
I really like this motel. I hope the owners will take the time to notice the little things that make staying at an older property enjoyable.
GGuest UserYou get what you pay for. The building is old with cracks and wear and tear. My door's frame looked like someone had kicked it in at one point. The tv worked to let me see tubi at least but kept shutting off at 11:30 pm. It had no pests but I did find a spider just before I left the hotel room on my checkout day. It's located near the beach and a walk of about 15 minutes from the lexignton and the state aquarium. No food no room service but I knew that going in. I will say the ac worked very well and I had to turn it up to avoid being frozen to death, although everytime it stoped it sounded like someone was trying to get into my room. Freaked me out at first until I realised what it was. Building also seems to be off center due to age. They are developing the area so maybe the owners will sell it once the land's price goes up. All in all if you are looking for a cheap place this is the place for you.
GGuest UserOne of the best locations on all of South Padre. The door of my room was literally only steps away from the beach with parking just as close. This made coming and going very easy with no elevators or long walks to the parking area. On the down side, there were people out on the shared front deck until midnight several nights in a row. They were not excessively noisy but they did have music playing the entire time. Could have done without that but it was not enough to keep me from enjoying my stay. If peace and solitude is what you need, probably should consider staying somewhere else. Otherwise, this is an ideal location at a very reasonable price. Did not visit the bar and there was no food service available at the time of my stay.
