I often stay overnight in Aachen, especially when a friendly club hosts an event at the Eurogress Center. This time I wanted to take a closer look at the B&B City-Hotel. Here is my neutral review (for context: I am a graduate of a hotel vocational school and worked in the hotel and catering industry for many years). The hotel and my room were largely clean (although you can see every crumb on the dark carpet) and offered reasonable value for money. The room faced the inner courtyard, was extremely quiet, and the beds were clean and comfortable – I slept well. The late checkout on Sunday at 2 p.m. deserves special mention! The receptionist was also very friendly. However, what is completely unacceptable – especially in January – is the non-functioning heating in room (#121). You can't rent out a room like that without asking – not everyone sleeps with the windows open in winter! Moreover, this problem seems to have been known for some time, as I had read about a defective heating system in a previous review. The silicone seal on the shower door also desperately needs replacing; it's sagging in places and has black spots here and there (mold?). There was another problem during the night: When I returned to the hotel early in the morning, the door code didn't work (error message: "The code is invalid"). I had to press the emergency button and ring a member of staff out of bed. Fortunately, the code worked again on the room door. I can't comment on breakfast, as I didn't have it. Also unsatisfactory: My question about the availability of disabled parking spaces when booking simply went unanswered, which deducts another star.
