We were attracted to this place by the period rooms advertised. Most are probably lovely but we got suite 11b which looks like it has been converted from a block of garages or flat roofed outbuildings. It is completely character free, is not even accessed from within the property and has a somewhat awkward layout. It is clean, recently decorated and the beds were comfy but is an awkward shape. So reality did not meet expectations. There was no one on duty to allow us to pay for the chocolate bar we used. One bizarre thing- in my bedroom on top of the shelf I found a large sachet that was labelled as a product that would mask the odours of dead rodents! A bit off-putting. Happily no dead rodents spotted. As long as you know you're staying in a character room you'll be fine.

Elegant and comfortable apartment in great location with lots of street parking. Positives; location, styling, quiet. Negatives: poor soundproofing between two bedrooms could hear everything. Shower needs maintenance and fixture replacing. No dishwasher. No reception. Please note no lift if there are mobility issues.

We stayed in the Grand Room (No 1). The room was very big and had an inviting fire going when we arrived. We did arrive a little earlier than the check in time of 2.00pm and found parking was a bit of an issue. The car parks out the back were full (I assume with cleaning staff) and there were no staff on site. There was no parking out the front - a very busy church or school across the road. We had to park out on the main street and walk our bags around. We made a call on a mobile phone number we had and they organised a key quickly for us which allowed us into our room early. We went out and grabbed lunch and got back around 2.00pm and the car parks were starting to empty out by then and we were able to snag a car park straight out the front. Room was beautiful and full of character. Was very well appointed. If you have problems with stairs I would make sure I book a ground floor room. I couldn't see a lift and there were no staff on site to assist with bags.

We stayed 5 nights in room 10, the signature suite. This is a stunning room - but we were disappointed that the spa bath didn't work, the kitchen tap dripped incessantly the whole time we were there, the bin was broken, my elderly aunt sat on the chair and the leg snapped off (suspect it was already broken as she is not heavy set). These are all things that would be easily sorted - if anyone could be contacted. I would say the communication is very poor - there are numbers to ring but nobody answers, and we are still waiting for a call back! A big let down as far as service goes. Luckily there were no parties or unruly guests, as there is honestly nobody you could get in touch with if there was. Having said all that - this really is the most beautiful room, and with a little bit of attention would meet up to its description.

Fantastic building, lot of heritage, really nice spacious suite, easy assess up very wide stairs. Bed was extremely comfortable and great sleep. Small car park out the back/side can have issue accessing with other vehicles parked in lane way servicing their businesses.
