I didn’t hate this hotel by any means but there were quite a few things that kept me from loving it. First, before we even get to the hotel we should start with beihai itself. I would say there’s no real reason for anyone to visit this place. There’s some good food for sure but it’s a boring, hot, and generally tourist-packed place. IF you do decide you need to visit beihai for whatever reason though I suppose this hotel is fine but there are some things to be aware of. First is that said tourists will be there. They’re super loud, inconsiderate, gawk at foreigners as if you’re from another planet, and just generally unpleasant (even lounging around and smoking in the non-smoking lobby). Next is the pool- photos make it look gorgeous but it’s very shallow, maybe 3 feet, and the view from the pool is a concrete parking lot (doesn’t show that in any of the photos). So basically not a place most people would hang out or swim. My room also felt dusty/musty. Positives- the staff are extremely friendly and helpful.

Hygiene: Fortunately, why should the private swimming pool be cleaned before giving the guest a room? Instead, we only ask when it needs cleaning after checking in. This is a bit strange🙈
