Cowrie Guest House

Last stop on the Northumberland coastal path before catching the train home. Perfectly placed a few minutes walk from the station. Our room was small but beautifully thought out. Very welcoming host, great breakfast, we’ll be back if we’re in the area again.

My brother and I stayed 2 nights at the Cowrie guest house as part of a walking trip. Ruth and Ian were great hosts. The rooms are clean and comfortable. Little extras like fresh milk and bottled water were much appreciated. Breakfast was brilliant. Nearby free parking was a bonus. Would highly recommend the Cowrie as a base to explore the beautiful area.

We stayed with Ruth and Ian for 4 nights, a lovely couple who certainly put their all into running a lovely guest house. The establishment is on the main street with limited parking, but we managed to park every night. If not there is a free public park down the road. Our room and ensuite were bright and clean. Bed was comfortable and we slept well, ear plugs are provided in a information pack. Plenty tea / coffee and nice biscuits. Fresh milk in a fridge on the landing which was very welcome. Breakfast was pre-order and delicious. A good choice of cooked along with cereals, fresh fruit, yoghurt , toast and accompaniments. Everything was of a good quality at a reasonable price, what more can you ask for.

Brilliant!! Top marks, and a big thank you to Ruth and Ian for a hugely enjoyable 4-night stay (mid June 2024). They could not have been more welcoming, friendly and obliging. The best guest house or hotel I have stayed in for many years. Great breakfasts, cooked fresh to order. You order the cooked part (there is also at least one non-cooked alternative) the night before, so Ian and Ruth can be on it as soon as you arrive in the breakfast room. I particularly enjoyed the locally sourced sausage. – I’ve rarely tasted better – and the cafetiere coffee. My room was spacious, the furnishings tasteful, and the bed very comfortable. I slept better than I do at home. A very good selection of teas, coffees etc on the tray in the rooms, replenished regularly, and fresh milk in a small refrigerator on the landing. Everything I needed for a relaxing holiday. Good value too. I have paid much more for holiday accommodation in the past for a much inferior experience. Can’t wait for my next visit. Tony W

Ian and ruth and family were so welcoming and very very helpful. The rooms are so clean and modern. The bed is so comfortable and the rooms are nice and warm. Small touches they made were amazing and thoughtful. The breakfast was 11 out of 10. Freshly made and asked how you would like your breakfast cooked. 100% great service. The information pack you are given on arrival is full of all the information you need and more. Felt like part of the family

Super place run by Ruth and Ian in the heart of Berwick, not the biggest place but the room was lovely and bright with a clean, well maintained en suite. Full tea and coffee making facilities were on hand and a fridge on the landing was a bonus for fresh milk. Breakfast was a full service, your choice was requested on a menu to be presented before 8.30 the previous evening. The cooked breakfast was freshly cooked and very tasty with the accompanying cereals, juices, sauces and preserves all on hand too. Ian and Ruth are great hosts and they and their guest house are a credit to each other, may this place flourish for many years to come
