When I went out after checking in, my key (not a card key) was broken, and when I told the front desk, they said, "I'm watching you on the security camera, so you can just go out."
I took my valuables with me, but I was still worried.
Also, they don't speak Japanese. When I left my carrier with them, they told me to leave it at the entrance (where the door is open) where it could easily be taken from outside.
