Dorp was our first stop in South Africa and the beginning of our honeymoon. We stayed in the Gallery Suite, which was incredibly spacious with a lovely kitchen, comfortable bedroom, and a large, beautifully designed bathroom. All the little touches made it feel special, from the Dorp branded items to the complimentary snacks and drinks. We were also welcomed with a bottle of fizz and a South African wine, which was such a thoughtful gesture. Our only small complaint is that we would have preferred to be closer to/in the main hotel. The Gallery Suite is quite a walk away, with lots of steps up to breakfast, and we hadn’t realised this when booking. Dorp is located at the top of a hill close to Bo-Kaap, so we drove through the area several times. The hilltop location also meant we had excellent views of Table Mountain, especially from the breakfast terrace — a beautiful sight to start each morning. Breakfast was great, with lots of variety. The shakshuka and fresh fruit platters were particular highlights and made for a lovely start to the day. We felt very safe throughout our stay. There was a strong security presence, and every time we returned in the evening we were greeted by security, which was very reassuring. The hotel has a quirky charm, with unique décor, gorgeous flowers and plants, and beautifully designed communal rooms which offered tea, coffee, water and even complimentary gin and tonics — a lovely touch. Overall, The Dorp was a memorable and characterful start to our honeymoon, with great views and friendly service, would recommend!

We stayed in one of the two bedroom family suites and absolutely loved the property. Quirky and fantastic views with a very homely feel. Newly rusticised (not sure if that’s a word technically!) interiors were both old and new school at the same time. Super service - staff were very friendly and genuine.

Amazing 5 night stay early October. Great lounge/dining area, amazing roof top seating area giving fantastic views across Cape Town. Our room was quirky but lovely, such a comfortable bed, it wasn't that warm when we arrived and the evening turn down service switched on the electric blanket, heaven! Best nights sleep I'd had in a long time. A bottle of bubbles welcomed us as it was my birthday while we were away, thank you. Great choices for breakfast. Evening menu was limited but we'd eaten big meals during the day so only needed something light in the evening, the food we had was great. Would highly recommend The Dorp.

My partner and I stayed at Dorp in September for 6 days to kick off a 3 week trip in Southern Africa. What an amazing starting point. I found Dorp through online research and knew we were in for a treat but nothing prepared us for the amazing experience we had not just because of the unique design and decor but also the staff, the view of Table Mountain, the food and just an atmosphere that is hard to describe unless you live it. We really did not want to leave and tried to enjoy as much time as we could at the property. We chose a pricier room with a balcony and a direct view of Table Mountain but it was worth every penny. The hotel is located on a steep hill overlooking the historic Malay neighbourhood but the property is a worthwhile trade off for walkability. The hotel is still a few minutes away to most attractions by Uber or taxi. Uber is very convenient in Cape Town

Incredible views from the hotels roof terrace! The friendliness of all the staff was noticeable and they made the stay really relaxed and welcoming! We also got a great suggestion about the best way to climb table mountain. Food was delicious! The hotel is up a steep hill (but the view is worth it!). There is some parking but not lots.

If you like quirky, interesting, comfortable, cozy, welcoming, unpretentious unique hotels then this is the place for you!!! We spent 3 glorious evenings in the moon family suite. Our children joined us from the UK. We live in Australia. None of us are strangers to Cape Town. 30 years ago I went to UCT and my husband went to school there. Dorp is possibly one of the loveliest hotels I have ever stayed in. Our room had a wonderful full view of table mountain. There is a lot of attention to detail. There are books and flowers everywhere. At night candles are lit in the dining area and it’s really very lovely. We ate lunch there on arrival and it was one of the best pieces of kingklip I had whilst in South Africa. I can also recommend the milk tart which my daughter and I naughty shared before dinner one night (I am still hoping they send me the recipe 😉). There are so many little extras as well that are worth commenting on. The kitchen was generously stocked with chocolates, rusks, soft drinks, tea and coffee and more. The soap in the bathroom was quite special. The linen was luxurious. All in all I would really recommend this hotel.

I will start by saying that if you want to stay at the Dorp Hotel, read the poem on their website. Though I was referred by a friend who knew the owners, it was that poem that hooked me! You will know if this is the place where you want to set your bags down for a few days or a few months. The Dorp is for travelers that love beautiful spaces and places with history. You appreciate all the design details and that they never "match". The Dorp is like a sanctuary of history meets design, exuberantly inviting in the natural setting surrounding it, with a twist of humor. But the highlight is not the space. We only wish we had more time to meet and talk to the local staff who make every second of your visit an experience of homecoming with a brand of warmth that is unrivaled and never over the top, but very real. Thank you for having us. We hope to return.

this hotel is so unique, i'm so pleased we picked this, everything was excellent - the staff, the food, the hotel itself and cape town is just magnificent - a proper pool area would be nice but considering the location (on the side of a hill - incredible views) i imagine that might be tricky - just go and stay somewhere different!
