Outstanding place to stay to visit the magnificent Sigiriya archeological site. A truly beautiful hotel set in lakes and rice paddies. A slice to calm and relaxation filled with a variety of birds - from elegant greater egrets to showy peacocks. Our accommodation consisted of a beautiful little house with a large sitting area, huge bedroom and bathroom, and comfortable veranda. The restaurant service was top notch, a very creative chef, and very friendly professional staff at all levels. We particularly enjoyed Dilshan’s service in the restaurant - a combination of efficient polite professionalism. And it was always a treat to walk back to our little house in the evening after dinner, alternating between spotlighting the local frogs and marvelling at the stars.

I have stayed in many 5 star hotels: there is nothing like this one. We were a group of 10 from the US. Each of us had a villa. We each had a golf buggy to drive us to our villa, along paths that went by small lakes & waterways. The villas were beautiful & each had a back porch which looked over the lake, that had water flowers, birds & fish. You could call your buggy for the ride back to the dining area. We never did, because the walk back was so pleasant – we even had peacocks to keep us company. Each dinner was a 5 course meal: 3 choices for starters & several main courses to choose from. For one dinner, I ordered a seafood meal. Others got their plates of food: a main dish, with a variety of other items. Mine was similar, but then another platter arrived. Seems like my dinner had a number of accompaniments (see picture). It’s a lovely scenic hotel & the staff were outstanding

This was the best holiday my husband and I have ever had it was perfect from start to finish. We were treated like royalty off the staff nothing was too much trouble for any of them. The housekeeping were brilliant, the waiters, the reception, the bar staff, the chefs, the food was 5 star it was beautiful. There are not enough words to tell you about our overall experience at this place, the wildlife was spectacular, everything from crocodiles to peacocks, owls, beautiful birds including birds of prey, you didn’t really need to go anywhere although we did have many trips but came back to the water gardens each day. We stayed there for 14 nights and it was the best thing we ever did. If you’re not sure where to stay we can’t recommend this place enough. I have terminal cancer and if I can visit there again before I’m too ill we definitely will. Thankyou to you all for such a wonderful experience with beautiful Sri Lankan people you really are something else ❤️

Had a truly relaxing stay. The staff was patient and attentive to all our needs. The villas were quite spacious and reasonably priced. Perfect for a family getaway! Special thanks to Dilanka (our butler) who ensured all our needs were met during the stay.

Mirroring other reviews made, the Water Garden has exceptionally beautiful grounds and this is matched by the quality found in the very well appointment large apartments. The breakfast and evening meals were excellent and the staff are a credit to the hotel, in particular Sashi and Dishan. I would highly recommend to anyone wanting a totally relaxing and stunning stay in the area.

We had a very comfortable and enjoyable stay at Water Garden. The two bedroom villa had plenty of space with its own pool. The food was tasty and was from a set menu, was adapted to suit the guest. The staff were very attentive though did not intrude on privacy. The view from the grounds was fabulous with the Sigiriya rock in the distance. The spa was also delightful where I enjoyed a relaxing massage. Something that stood out in this property is the attention to nature and serene surroundings. Staying in the villas is expensive, but you do get a great experience. A butler assigned to each of the villas is available for the guests. This was our second stay at Water Garden. Would definitely recommend if you are after quiet serenity, privacy and exploring the rock and Minneriya nature reserve.

Wow- loved this hotel. A birders’ paradise. We stayed in a one bedroom villa with a lovely deck overlooking the lake. Room was clean and comfy. High quality linens etc. We appreciated the binoculars, the books on birds, trees and flowers. Also provided a Ceylon recipe book. Our butler was fantastic and was helpful and personable. Because we were only there for two rights we didn’t get a chance to use their spa or gym or pools. They all looked inviting. Food was delicious and the variety was amazing. Wait staff were friendly and efficient. We loved the upstairs bar area overlooking the grounds and pool. Great cocktails and snacks. Bartender was welcoming. Highly recommended- one of our favorite hotels in Sei Lanka.
