Mercure properties in Datong

I wouldn't recommend it! I've stayed at Mercure hotels in other cities before, so I chose this one this time. The decor still meets the standards of HUAZHU and Mercure, but everything else was terrible. Construction started around 8 AM during breakfast, and I was woken up by the noise. When I asked the front desk, they showed no apology, only saying they weren't aware of any construction. When checking out, I stood at the front desk for five minutes while the staff was busy with other things. I asked if they were finished, and only then did they say, ”Oh, it's ready.” I then asked if I didn't need a luggage tag for my stored bags, and they replied, ”Oh, please wait a moment.” Secondly, on our second day, there were two huge handprints on the window that weren't ours, and they weren't wiped off during room cleaning. Used cotton swabs weren't replaced with new ones either. The service truly is bad! Additionally, there's nothing around the hotel; you need to drive or take a taxi to get anywhere. There aren't many restaurants either.

I checked in at night and Xiao Tian handled everything quickly. There was a faint smell of smoke in the twin room for some reason, but the staff were very proactive in resolving the issue and upgraded us to a family room. Overall, it was a great experience. The hotel is very close to the high-speed train station, which is perfect if you're leaving by train the next day. It's even more affordable if you have a Ctrip voucher.
